HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Mayor Tyrone Echols of
4the City of Venice on the occasion of his retirement; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mayor Echols was born in Memphis, Tennessee on
6December 5, 1937; he and his family migrated to Venice,
7Illinois in 1946; he was educated at Dunbar Grade School,
8Madison High School, and Southern Illinois University; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mayor Echols has held his mayoral position for
10over 40 years; during his tenure, he has striven to continue
11upgrading the City of Venice through removing derelict
12buildings, attracting new businesses, and increasing the
13revenue produced by the means of sales taxes; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Mayor Echols has also served the community as a
15commissioner of the Madison County Sheriff's Office, as an
16alderperson, and as a precinct committeeperson for Venice
17Township #1; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Mayor Echols has also served as a board member of
19America's Central Port District and the Southwestern Illinois
20Law Enforcement Commission, a past president of the Illinois
21chapter of the National Conference of Black Mayors, a past

1legislative aide to State Representative Jim McPike, and a
2past union steward of the International Union of Operating
3Engineers; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mayor Echols is a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist
5Church, the Jericho #120 Masonic Lodge, Tyree Consistory #64,
6and the Madison branch of the NAACP; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we congratulate Mayor Tyrone Echols of the City of Venice on
10his retirement, and we wish him all the best in his future
11endeavors; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Mayor Echols as a symbol of our esteem and
14respect.
