| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives view it as essential to pay respect and honor | ||||||
| 4 | to Illinois' first responders and volunteers who go above and | ||||||
| 5 | beyond the call of duty in protecting Illinois residents; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, On April 23, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., | ||||||
| 7 | Andy Goforth and Daven Hug were on their way home when they | ||||||
| 8 | noticed smoke billowing from the second floor of the senior | ||||||
| 9 | apartments at the Village Apartments in Nashville, Illinois; | ||||||
| 10 | and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, After calling 9-1-1, Andy Goforth and Daven Hug | ||||||
| 12 | selflessly ran into the building and started heroically | ||||||
| 13 | notifying and evacuating residents; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, As Andy Goforth and Daven Hug were risking their | ||||||
| 15 | lives to help the residents of the building, seven volunteer | ||||||
| 16 | fire departments joined together to respond to this emergency; | ||||||
| 17 | working together, the seven rural fire departments | ||||||
| 18 | extinguished the fire; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, The first responders of Southern Illinois banded | ||||||
| 20 | together to answer this emergency; the fire departments of | ||||||
| 21 | Nashville, Hoyleton, Addieville, Ashley, Okawville, Carlyle, | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | and Coulterville and the ambulance services of Washington | ||||||
| 2 | County, Pinckneyville, New Baden, and Litton County bravely | ||||||
| 3 | responded to the emergency and were instrumental in preventing | ||||||
| 4 | further harm; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Two residents were airlifted to the Mercy Burn | ||||||
| 6 | Center at Mercy Hospital in Saint Louis while two other | ||||||
| 7 | residents were admitted to the Washington County Hospital, | ||||||
| 8 | where one was released on April 27 with minor injuries and the | ||||||
| 9 | other remains in hospital; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Without the quick and heroic action of Andy | ||||||
| 11 | Goforth and Daven Hug, this incident could have resulted in a | ||||||
| 12 | tragic loss of life; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 14 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we commend the brave actions of Andy Goforth and Daven Hug and | ||||||
| 16 | honor them for nobly putting their lives on the line to protect | ||||||
| 17 | some of Illinois' most vulnerable residents; and be it further | ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to Andy Goforth and Daven Hug as an expression of our | ||||||
| 20 | esteem and respect. | ||||||
