HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mary
4Aster Bailey of Chicago; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Aster Bailey was born to Joe Morrow and
6Evelyn Avant (Waddell) in Grand Junction, Tennessee; she
7attended school through ninth grade, leaving high school to
8work as a sharecropper on the Ames Plantation in Grand
9Junction; she married Robert Eugene Bailey, and they raised
10their children in the Washington Heights community of Chicago,
11where she remained a resident; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mary Aster Bailey was a gifted hairstylist, a
13talented seamstress, and a cat lover who also selflessly
14contributed to the well-being of those around her, especially
15her grandchildren; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mary Aster Bailey was a devoutly religious woman
17and the eldest member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church
18on the South Side of Chicago, where she had been a member for
1965 years and served as lead singer of the choir; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Mary Aster Bailey's journey through life was
21marked by resilience, courage, entrepreneurship, and an

1unwavering commitment to justice, community, and spirit; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Mary Aster Bailey Bailey was the wife of Robert
3Eugene Bailey for 65 years; the mother of Valarie Ann Ammons,
4Chessie Smith, Wilbert Bailey, and Raython Bailey; the
5grandmother of 24; the great-grandmother of 36; the
6great-great-grandmother of 14; and the owner of a long line of
7cats; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we mourn the passing of Mary Aster Bailey and extend our
11sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
12and loved her; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Mary Aster Bailey as an expression
15of our deepest sympathy.
