| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mary |
| 4 | | Aster Bailey of Chicago; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Aster Bailey was born to Joe Morrow and |
| 6 | | Evelyn Avant (Waddell) in Grand Junction, Tennessee; she |
| 7 | | attended school through ninth grade, leaving high school to |
| 8 | | work as a sharecropper on the Ames Plantation in Grand |
| 9 | | Junction; she married Robert Eugene Bailey, and they raised |
| 10 | | their children in the Washington Heights community of Chicago, |
| 11 | | where she remained a resident; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Mary Aster Bailey was a gifted hairstylist, a |
| 13 | | talented seamstress, and a cat lover who also selflessly |
| 14 | | contributed to the well-being of those around her, especially |
| 15 | | her grandchildren; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Mary Aster Bailey was a devoutly religious woman |
| 17 | | and the eldest member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church |
| 18 | | on the South Side of Chicago, where she had been a member for |
| 19 | | 65 years and served as lead singer of the choir; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Mary Aster Bailey's journey through life was |
