| 2 | | WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease |
| 3 | | of the central nervous system, affecting nearly one million |
| 4 | | people in the United States alone; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, MS generally strikes people in the prime of life, |
| 6 | | between ages 20 through 50; the cause and course of the often |
| 7 | | debilitating symptoms of MS remain unknown, and no cure |
| 8 | | currently exists; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is |
| 10 | | committed to a world free of MS and is working to heighten |
| 11 | | public knowledge about and insight into the disease; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has |
| 13 | | transformed what it means to live with MS and has provided |
| 14 | | global leadership to help achieve its vision of a world free of |
| 15 | | MS; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis |
| 17 | | Society has been a driving force of MS research, relentlessly |
| 18 | | pursuing prevention, treatments, and a cure, and has invested |
| 19 | | more than $1 billion in groundbreaking research; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Funds raised through the National Multiple |

| 1 | | Sclerosis Society fuel research on pathways to MS cures and |
| 2 | | invest in the MS research workforce at the best medical |
| 3 | | centers, universities, and other institutions throughout the |
| 4 | | U.S. and abroad, leading to many breakthroughs in the |
| 5 | | treatment of MS; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis |
| 7 | | Society is to cure MS while empowering people affected by MS to |
| 8 | | live their best lives and is an effort that all Americans and |
| 9 | | Illinoisans should support; therefore, be it |
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 11 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 12 | | we declare the week of March 9-15, 2025 as MS Awareness Week |
| 13 | | and May 30, 2025 as MS Awareness Day, and we encourage all |
| 14 | | Illinoisans to learn more about multiple sclerosis and what |
| 15 | | they can do to support individuals with MS and their families; |
| 16 | | and be it further |
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That we recognize the importance of finding the |
| 18 | | cause and cure of MS and express our appreciation for the |
| 19 | | dedication that the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has |
| 20 | | shown toward creating a world free of MS; and be it further |
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 | | presented to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as a |
