HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Andrew
4James "Andy" Werhane of Poplar Grove, who passed away on April
526, 2025; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Andy Werhane was born to Mary and James Werhane
7on October 26, 1982 and raised in Lena; he graduated from
8Lena-Winslow High School in 2001, where he played both
9football and baseball; he graduated from Eastern Illinois
10University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a
11high school teaching certificate; he earned a Master of Arts
12in Educational Technology from Concordia University in 2016
13and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Aurora
14University in 2023; while going through school, he also worked
15in his family's trucking business, Werhane Enterprises,
16washing and maintaining trucks; he married Sarah Werhane on
17November 12, 2011; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Andy Werhane was passionate about being an
19educator and made a lasting impact on the community of
20Belvidere during his time at Belvidere High School, where he
21taught English for nine years, and later as assistant
22principal of Washington Academy; he coached baseball, bowling,
23and golf and inspired countless students with his guidance and

1compassion; he was also a technology coach for nine years; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Andy Werhane was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs
3and Bears; he enjoyed music and golf and was a lifelong seeker
4of knowledge; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Andy Werhane was a devoted and caring husband,
6father, friend, and teacher; he was known for his humility and
7kindness; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Andy Werhane was preceded in death by little Baby
9A and his nephew, Patrick Michael Heagney; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Andy Werhane is survived by his wife, Sarah; his
11children, Olivia Katherine Werhane and James Arthur Werhane;
12his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Timothy and Suzanne
13Heagney; his siblings, Nicholas James (Katherine) Werhane,
14Joseph James (Genevieve) Werhane, and Ryan James (Heidi)
15Werhane; his brothers-in-law, Timothy (Samantha) Heagney Jr.
16and Thomas Heagney; his nieces and nephews, Lillian, Ellaina,
17Noah, Brinley, Allie, Charlotte, and Layton Werhane; his
18grandparents, Fred and Betty Werhane and Ronald and Patricia
19Mahon; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, students,
20and colleagues; therefore, be it

1HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we mourn the passing of Andrew James "Andy" Werhane and extend
3our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
4knew and loved him; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Andy Werhane as an expression of our
7deepest sympathy.
