HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Letter carriers deliver mail as public servants 
3who uphold public trust by ensuring the safe and efficient 
4passage of mail, becoming familiar neighborhood figures in the 
5communities they serve; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Letter carriers deliver to homes and businesses 
7six days a week, and increasingly seven days a week, in order 
8to serve American communities and to ensure that residents and 
9businesses receive essential correspondence, packages, and 
10other items; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The work of letter carriers often goes 
12unrecognized despite the vital role they play in the daily 
13lives of individuals, communities, and the functioning of 
14commerce; and
 
15    WHEREAS, As letter carriers carry out the constitutionally 
16mandated duty to deliver mail, they balance the demands of 
17public service with the right to decent pay, benefits, and 
18working conditions, becoming the first postal workers to form 
19a union, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), 
20in 1889; and
 
21    WHEREAS, NALC Branch 11, serving the Chicago region, was

1founded in 1891, and it has one of the largest offices within 
2the national organization today; and
 
3    WHEREAS, NALC Branch 11's letter carriers, building on the 
4spirit of community and public service, have regularly raised 
5money for charities and helped collect food donations as part 
6of the Stamp Out Hunger campaign; and
 
7    WHEREAS, NALC Branch 11 has demonstrated a commitment to 
8advocating for the rights and well-being of its members and 
9the strengthening of the communities it serves; therefore, be 
10it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
12HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we commend the members of National Association of Letter 
14Carriers (NALC) Branch 11 for their hard work, dedication, 
15outstanding service to the community, and commitment to 
16delivering for the United States; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to the leadership of NALC Branch 11 as a symbol of 
19our respect and esteem.
