HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Public media is non-profit media created for the 
3purpose of informing and serving all residents of the United 
4States, including Illinois residents; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Public media continues to be one of the most 
6trusted sources of news and information in Illinois; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Public media is often the only source of news and 
8emergency alerts in rural Illinois; and
 
9    WHEREAS, In this moment of time, threats are being made to 
10public media, including the undermining of the First 
11Amendment's right to freedom of the press, the support of 
12federal funding, and the license to broadcast; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In Illinois, we believe in the right of a free 
14press and access to trusted media for Illinois residents; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Licensees of public media outlets include state 
16universities, private colleges, and communities throughout 
17Illinois; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
19HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we support public media outlets in Illinois and their 
2independence; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That we encourage all licensees of public media 
4outlets to allow public media to operate under the United 
5States Constitution's right to free press without 
6interference, and we request this in particular from the 
7State's institutes of higher education; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That we support the continued flow of public 
9funds to support the free exchange of information from public 
10media outlets to the residents of Illinois.
