| 2 | | WHEREAS, On May 22, 2025, Congressional Republicans |
| 3 | | slammed a bill through the House of Representatives in the |
| 4 | | middle of the night that strips healthcare coverage from 14 |
| 5 | | million Americans; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, President Donald Trump brazenly lied to the |
| 7 | | American people, stating he would not cut Medicaid while |
| 8 | | actually lobbying behind closed doors to pass the bill that |
| 9 | | guts $1 trillion from Medicaid and other lifesaving services |
| 10 | | over the next decade; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Congress' own estimates show that 8.6 million |
| 12 | | Americans will be removed from Medicaid and that another 5.1 |
| 13 | | million Americans will lose healthcare coverage because of |
| 14 | | Republicans' refusal to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits |
| 15 | | that families need to make healthcare affordable; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, In Illinois alone, nearly half a million people |
| 17 | | will lose healthcare coverage because of the Republican bill; |
| 18 | | and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, The Trump healthcare cuts finance a plan that |
| 20 | | provides massive tax cuts for the wealthy while simultaneously |
| 21 | | adding to the burden of modest-income households; an analysis |

| 1 | | by the Yale Budget Lab found that Trump's bill gives the |
| 2 | | wealthiest 1% more than $63,000 per year, while taking $800 |
| 3 | | per year from the lowest-income families; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, The Trump healthcare cuts are currently being |
| 5 | | debated in the United States Senate; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Illinois House of Representatives |
| 7 | | have worked to move our State in a better direction by |
| 8 | | advancing policies such as the Healthcare Protection Act, |
| 9 | | which aims to make healthcare better and more affordable by |
| 10 | | stopping insurance companies from raising premiums simply to |
| 11 | | pad profits and reining in the gimmicks big insurance |
| 12 | | companies use to deny care; therefore, be it |
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 14 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 15 | | we oppose the Trump healthcare cuts, which fundamentally |
| 16 | | undermine the basic dignity and financial security of working |
| 17 | | families across the country; and be it further |
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That we call on the United States Senate to |
| 19 | | immediately table the Trump healthcare cuts bill and instead |
| 20 | | pursue reforms such as the Illinois' Healthcare Protection Act |
| 21 | | to make healthcare more accessible and more affordable; and be |
| 22 | | it further |
