| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to express their support for the | ||||||
| 4 | Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), an agency within | ||||||
| 5 | the United States Department of Homeland Security; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, ICE performs a vital role in the enforcement of | ||||||
| 7 | federal immigration laws and the safeguarding of national | ||||||
| 8 | security; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, ICE plays a critical part in protecting public | ||||||
| 10 | safety by apprehending individuals who are in the United | ||||||
| 11 | States or its territories in violation of federal immigration | ||||||
| 12 | statutes, including those with criminal convictions under | ||||||
| 13 | state or federal law; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Effective cooperation and collaboration among | ||||||
| 15 | federal, state, and local law enforcement is essential to | ||||||
| 16 | uphold the rule of law, prevent crime, and maintain security | ||||||
| 17 | in communities throughout Illinois; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Illinois state and local law enforcement agencies | ||||||
| 19 | are prohibited from assisting ICE in their enforcement efforts | ||||||
| 20 | due to the Illinois TRUST Act, thereby placing the safety of | ||||||
| 21 | ICE officers in jeopardy; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, ICE operates detention and removal programs in | ||||||
| 2 | Illinois that support enforcement and public safety | ||||||
| 3 | objectives; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, ICE officers have been publicly identified online | ||||||
| 5 | through the publishing of such information as their names, | ||||||
| 6 | addresses, and job titles with the intent of bringing harm to | ||||||
| 7 | them and their families; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, ICE officers are facing a 500% increase in | ||||||
| 9 | assaults against them while carrying out enforcement | ||||||
| 10 | operations in addition to violent retaliation outside of the | ||||||
| 11 | workplace by citizens who oppose stronger enforcement of | ||||||
| 12 | federal law and have become enabled by this released | ||||||
| 13 | information; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, ICE officers wear masks, sunglasses, and other | ||||||
| 15 | face coverings to protect themselves and their families from | ||||||
| 16 | harassment online and in person; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, It is important to express support for the | ||||||
| 18 | protection of our first responders while they are on or off | ||||||
| 19 | duty and are upholding public safety in the State; therefore, | ||||||
| 20 | be it | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 2 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 3 | we express our support to Immigration and Customs Enforcement | ||||||
| 4 | (ICE), an agency within the United States Department of | ||||||
| 5 | Homeland Security, for its efforts in enforcing federal | ||||||
| 6 | immigration law, and we recognize ICE's role in cooperating | ||||||
| 7 | with Illinois law enforcement to apprehend individuals who | ||||||
| 8 | pose threats to public safety; and be it further | ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | delivered to all members of the Illinois Congressional | ||||||
| 11 | Delegation and the Acting Director of ICE. | ||||||
