HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Village of Calumet
4Park on the occasion of marking 100 years as a vibrant
5community; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Calumet Park was originally incorporated as
7DeYoung in 1912 before reincorporating as Calumet Park in
81925, when it then housed a few hundred families; and
 
9    WHEREAS, With the establishment of Interstate 57 through
10the village, Calumet Park experienced a population growth and
11increased housing construction, which in turn supported the
12growth of commercial districts along 127th Street and along
13Ashland Avenue; and
 
14    WHEREAS, As Calumet Park continued to grow through the
151960s, residents worked to expand community services by
16building a public library and public swimming pool; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Calumet Park renamed its portion of 127th Street
18as Obama Drive in honor of former President Barack Obama in
192010, becoming the first Obama Drive in the United States and
20the first road named after President Obama in his home state of
21Illinois; and

1    WHEREAS, With a population of over 7,000 people, Calumet
2Park residents pride themselves on maintaining a close-knit,
3family-friendly community with a sense of service, engagement,
4and belonging; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we congratulate the Village of Calumet Park on marking its
8100th anniversary as a vibrant community; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Calumet Park Mayor Ronald Denson as an expression
11of our respect and esteem.
