| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to commend Mayor William D. McLeod of the |
| 4 | | Village of Hoffman Estates for his decades of service; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod has served Hoffman Estates with |
| 6 | | distinction for over four decades, first as a village trustee |
| 7 | | from September 1980 to April 2001, then as acting mayor from |
| 8 | | September 2000 to April 2001, and subsequently as mayor since |
| 9 | | April 2001; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Mayor McLeod has |
| 11 | | demonstrated an unwavering commitment to economic development, |
| 12 | | business retention, housing, infrastructure, transportation, |
| 13 | | and environmental sustainability, always working to ensure |
| 14 | | that residents and business owners receive the best possible |
| 15 | | representation; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod has spearheaded many transformative |
| 17 | | projects, including the establishment of the Hoffman Estates |
| 18 | | Economic Development Committee, the Hoffman Estates Historical |
| 19 | | Museum, and the Barrington Interchange; he has also been |
| 20 | | instrumental in the redevelopment of the former AT&T campus |
| 21 | | into the $200 million Bell Works "metroburb", providing 1.2 |
| 22 | | million square feet of office space, 60,000 square feet of |

| 1 | | conference facilities, storage, and amenities, and 60,000 |
| 2 | | square feet of restaurant and retail space; and |
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod has been a steadfast advocate for |
| 4 | | the Village Green redevelopment and has worked to expand bike |
| 5 | | paths and to promote solar and wind energy, and he previously |
| 6 | | signed the U.S. Conference of Mayors' Climate Protection |
| 7 | | Agreement; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod's regional and national leadership |
| 9 | | has included serving as president of the Northwest Municipal |
| 10 | | Conference, holding leadership roles in the U.S. Conference of |
| 11 | | Mayors and the National League of Cities, and serving on |
| 12 | | boards of several organizations, including Suburban PACE, the |
| 13 | | Joint Action Water Agency, WINGS, and the Children's Advocacy |
| 14 | | Center of North and Northwest Cook County; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod's decades of service have also |
| 16 | | reflected his deep personal connection to the community, |
| 17 | | including visiting neighborhood block parties, supporting |
| 18 | | local causes, and serving as a small business owner, |
| 19 | | legislative assistant, and active civic leader; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod and his wife, Joane, are the proud |
| 21 | | parents of eight and grandparents of 12, who they cherish |
| 22 | | spending time with; outside of his official duties, he also |

| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 4 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 5 | | we commend Mayor William D. McLeod of the Village of Hoffman |
| 6 | | Estates for his exceptional leadership, enduring dedication, |
| 7 | | and transformative contributions to Hoffman Estates and the |
| 8 | | region; and be it further |
| 9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 10 | | presented to Mayor McLeod as a symbol of our esteem and |
| 11 | | respect. |
