HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend Mayor William D. McLeod of the Village of Hoffman Estates for his decades of service; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod has served Hoffman Estates with distinction for over four decades, first as a village trustee from September 1980 to April 2001, then as acting mayor from September 2000 to April 2001, and subsequently as mayor since April 2001; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Mayor McLeod has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to economic development, business retention, housing, infrastructure, transportation, and environmental sustainability, always working to ensure that residents and business owners receive the best possible representation; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod has spearheaded many transformative projects, including the establishment of the Hoffman Estates Economic Development Committee, the Hoffman Estates Historical Museum, and the Barrington Interchange; he has also been instrumental in the redevelopment of the former AT&T campus into the $200 million Bell Works "metroburb", providing 1.2 million square feet of office space, 60,000 square feet of conference facilities, storage, and amenities, and 60,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod has been a steadfast advocate for the Village Green redevelopment and has worked to expand bike paths and to promote solar and wind energy, and he previously signed the U.S. Conference of Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod's regional and national leadership has included serving as president of the Northwest Municipal Conference, holding leadership roles in the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities, and serving on boards of several organizations, including Suburban PACE, the Joint Action Water Agency, WINGS, and the Children's Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod's decades of service have also reflected his deep personal connection to the community, including visiting neighborhood block parties, supporting local causes, and serving as a small business owner, legislative assistant, and active civic leader; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod and his wife, Joane, are the proud parents of eight and grandparents of 12, who they cherish spending time with; outside of his official duties, he also enjoys reading, history, walking, and mowing the lawn; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Mayor William D. McLeod of the Village of Hoffman Estates for his exceptional leadership, enduring dedication, and transformative contributions to Hoffman Estates and the region; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mayor McLeod as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
