HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Aurora Actionaires on 50 
4years of service to the Aurora community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires was founded in 1975 by Donna 
6J. Williams, Martha M. Hickling, and Caroline Johnson with the 
7thought of organizing a social club; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires began placing an emphasis on 
9service rather than social activities as the club progressed 
10and is now composed of 20 African American women who support 
11other like-minded organizations and volunteer to serve at 
12various community events; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires has assisted the elderly, the 
14needy, provided more than $200,000 in college scholarships to 
15typically underserved Aurora high school graduates, and 
16sponsored and maintained three Little Libraries; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires' projects have included Sickle 
18Cell Tag Days, purchasing equipment for special needs 
19students, sponsoring workshops for parents and students on how 
20to complete scholarship applications and the FAFSA (Free 
21Application for Federal Student Aid), and sponsoring girl

1mentoring outings to events such as the Little Mermaid movie 
2and spring etiquette teas; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires provided masks to residents of 
4the Aurora Housing Authority and hand sanitizer, gloves, and 
5socks to residents of nursing homes during the Covid-19 
6pandemic; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires established The Aurora 
8Actionaires Foundation, Inc. in 2015, a recognized 501(c)(3) 
9non-profit that is now the charitable arm of the organization; 
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires' motto since its inception is 
12"We Care. We Act. We Serve."; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
14HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
15we congratulate Aurora Actionaires on 50 years of service to 
16the Aurora community; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to Aurora Actionaires as a symbol of our respect and 
19esteem.
