| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Aurora Actionaires on 50 |
| 4 | | years of service to the Aurora community; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires was founded in 1975 by Donna |
| 6 | | J. Williams, Martha M. Hickling, and Caroline Johnson with the |
| 7 | | thought of organizing a social club; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires began placing an emphasis on |
| 9 | | service rather than social activities as the club progressed |
| 10 | | and is now composed of 20 African American women who support |
| 11 | | other like-minded organizations and volunteer to serve at |
| 12 | | various community events; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires has assisted the elderly, the |
| 14 | | needy, provided more than $200,000 in college scholarships to |
| 15 | | typically underserved Aurora high school graduates, and |
| 16 | | sponsored and maintained three Little Libraries; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires' projects have included Sickle |
| 18 | | Cell Tag Days, purchasing equipment for special needs |
| 19 | | students, sponsoring workshops for parents and students on how |
| 20 | | to complete scholarship applications and the FAFSA (Free |
| 21 | | Application for Federal Student Aid), and sponsoring girl |
