| 2 | | WHEREAS, For 250 years, the United States Postal Service |
| 3 | | (USPS) has bound this nation together; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, The USPS delivers prescriptions to seniors and |
| 5 | | veterans, ballots to voters, and shipments for small |
| 6 | | businesses and provides reliable service to rural and remote |
| 7 | | areas, including many indigenous communities, where private |
| 8 | | companies often refuse service because it is not profitable; |
| 9 | | and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Only the USPS serves every ZIP code and every |
| 11 | | household, regardless of geography or income; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The USPS faces renewed threats of privatization, |
| 13 | | which would mean jobs eliminated, closed post offices, and |
| 14 | | higher rates, and the loss of universal service at affordable |
| 15 | | rates to all ZIP codes would devastate families, local |
| 16 | | economies, and entire communities; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, People have demonstrated how strongly they oppose |
| 18 | | privatization, including a grassroots effort that has sent |
| 19 | | more than half a million letters to Congress demanding |
| 20 | | protection of the USPS; therefore, be it |
