| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Christopher "Chris" |
| 4 | | Stohr on being named the 2025-2026 Jahns Distinguished |
| 5 | | Lecturer by the Association of Environmental and Engineering |
| 6 | | Geologists (AEG); and |
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr has worked professionally for more than |
| 8 | | 40 years in the fields of applied geology, research, and |
| 9 | | humanitarianism in the midwestern U.S., South America, and |
| 10 | | Africa; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr obtained a Bachelor of Science in |
| 12 | | Geology at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana and a |
| 13 | | Master of Science in Engineering Geology at Purdue University, |
| 14 | | developing applications for innovative digital image |
| 15 | | processing of remotely sensed imagery at the Laboratory for |
| 16 | | Applications of Remote Sensing; he began work at the Missouri |
| 17 | | Geology and Land Survey, performing investigations for dams, |
| 18 | | sewage lagoons, hazardous and nuclear waste sites, dye |
| 19 | | tracing, and dumps and landfills in the Ozarks and throughout |
| 20 | | that state; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr directed an inventory of 3,600 dams and |
| 22 | | conducted a site selection study for hazardous waste disposal |

| 1 | | facilities in Missouri; he worked as part of team, conducting |
| 2 | | special fault studies, reconnaissance mapping, trench mapping, |
| 3 | | and paleomagnetic studies for a nuclear power plant in central |
| 4 | | Iran using U.S. NRC procedures; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr, at the Illinois State Geological |
| 6 | | Survey, Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois at |
| 7 | | Urbana-Champaign, participated in or led research on |
| 8 | | landslides, trench covers, groundwater, agronomic analysis of |
| 9 | | lake sediments, downhole geophysics, precision agriculture, |
| 10 | | remote sensing, coastal erosion, close range photogrammetry |
| 11 | | and terrestrial and aerial laser scanning, archeology, glacial |
| 12 | | geology, height modernization [geodetic surveying], and |
| 13 | | geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr was a Fulbright Senior Specialist at |
| 15 | | Beni Suef University, Egypt and participated in and led |
| 16 | | international humanitarian development projects in Malawi, |
| 17 | | Africa; he is a professional geologist and certified |
| 18 | | engineering geologist in Illinois and Oregon and sits on the |
| 19 | | Illinois Board of Licensing for Professional Geologists; he is |
| 20 | | an active member of ASPRS, AEG, and GSA; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr was elected to the Champaign County |
| 22 | | Board for three terms and was twice appointed to serve on the |
| 23 | | Mahomet Aquifer Council; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr, as a recipient of this award, will |
| 2 | | promote student awareness of environmental and engineering |
| 3 | | geology through annual lectures at academic institutions and |
| 4 | | by visiting AEG chapters during the year; therefore, be it |
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 6 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 7 | | we congratulate Dr. Christopher "Chris" Stohr on being named |
| 8 | | the 2025-2026 Jahns Distinguished Lecturer by the Association |
| 9 | | of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG); and be it |
| 10 | | further |
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 12 | | presented to Dr. Stohr as a symbol of our respect and esteem. |
