HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Christopher "Chris"
4Stohr on being named the 2025-2026 Jahns Distinguished
5Lecturer by the Association of Environmental and Engineering
6Geologists (AEG); and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr has worked professionally for more than
840 years in the fields of applied geology, research, and
9humanitarianism in the midwestern U.S., South America, and
10Africa; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr obtained a Bachelor of Science in
12Geology at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana and a
13Master of Science in Engineering Geology at Purdue University,
14developing applications for innovative digital image
15processing of remotely sensed imagery at the Laboratory for
16Applications of Remote Sensing; he began work at the Missouri
17Geology and Land Survey, performing investigations for dams,
18sewage lagoons, hazardous and nuclear waste sites, dye
19tracing, and dumps and landfills in the Ozarks and throughout
20that state; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr directed an inventory of 3,600 dams and
22conducted a site selection study for hazardous waste disposal

1facilities in Missouri; he worked as part of team, conducting
2special fault studies, reconnaissance mapping, trench mapping,
3and paleomagnetic studies for a nuclear power plant in central
4Iran using U.S. NRC procedures; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr, at the Illinois State Geological
6Survey, Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois at
7Urbana-Champaign, participated in or led research on
8landslides, trench covers, groundwater, agronomic analysis of
9lake sediments, downhole geophysics, precision agriculture,
10remote sensing, coastal erosion, close range photogrammetry
11and terrestrial and aerial laser scanning, archeology, glacial
12geology, height modernization [geodetic surveying], and
13geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr was a Fulbright Senior Specialist at
15Beni Suef University, Egypt and participated in and led
16international humanitarian development projects in Malawi,
17Africa; he is a professional geologist and certified
18engineering geologist in Illinois and Oregon and sits on the
19Illinois Board of Licensing for Professional Geologists; he is
20an active member of ASPRS, AEG, and GSA; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr was elected to the Champaign County
22Board for three terms and was twice appointed to serve on the
23Mahomet Aquifer Council; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Stohr, as a recipient of this award, will
2promote student awareness of environmental and engineering
3geology through annual lectures at academic institutions and
4by visiting AEG chapters during the year; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we congratulate Dr. Christopher "Chris" Stohr on being named
8the 2025-2026 Jahns Distinguished Lecturer by the Association
9of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG); and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Dr. Stohr as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
