| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Vicky L. | ||||||
| 4 | King of Mill Shoals, who passed away on November 23, 2025; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Vicky King was born to Don and Mary King in | ||||||
| 6 | Fairfield on June 23, 1954; she graduated as valedictorian | ||||||
| 7 | from Mills Prairie High School in 1972, where she was the | ||||||
| 8 | homecoming queen and a cheerleader; she continued her | ||||||
| 9 | education at Southern Illinois University, where she was in | ||||||
| 10 | the first female athletic class to receive full ride | ||||||
| 11 | scholarships thanks to the newly enacted Title IX, a moment | ||||||
| 12 | that set the tone for her career vigorously advocating for | ||||||
| 13 | equal opportunities in high school athletics; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Vicky King served as a physical education and | ||||||
| 15 | driver education teacher at Carbondale Community High School | ||||||
| 16 | (CCHS), where she also coached softball and girl's golf, | ||||||
| 17 | recording over 250 softball wins and leading the Terriers' | ||||||
| 18 | first girls' golf team to the Illinois High School Association | ||||||
| 19 | State (IHSA) Championship; she also hosted the first IHSA | ||||||
| 20 | State Girls Golf Tournament for six years; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Vicky King later became the athletic director at | ||||||
| 22 | CCHS, the first female to serve in that position in Southern | ||||||

| 1 | Illinois, where she was instrumental in the planning and | ||||||
| 2 | development of Carbondale's new high school and the Super | ||||||
| 3 | Block Sports Complex; during her career, she served for many | ||||||
| 4 | years helping shape athletic policies on the IHSA Legislative | ||||||
| 5 | Committees for Athletic Directors, Principals, and Golf; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Vicky King served as the principal of CCHS until | ||||||
| 7 | her retirement in 2010; even in retirement, she remained | ||||||
| 8 | deeply involved with the district, serving on the CCHS Board | ||||||
| 9 | of Education, and she was eventually inducted into the CCHS | ||||||
| 10 | Hall of Fame for her decades of service to the school | ||||||
| 11 | community; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Vicky King will be remembered as a dedicated | ||||||
| 13 | coach, leader, mentor, and friend by the community, as well as | ||||||
| 14 | a trailblazer in girls' and women's sports in Southern | ||||||
| 15 | Illinois; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 17 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 18 | we mourn the passing of Vicky L. King and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 19 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 20 | her; and be it further | ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to the family of Vicky King as an expression of our | ||||||
