HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Vicky L.
4King of Mill Shoals, who passed away on November 23, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Vicky King was born to Don and Mary King in
6Fairfield on June 23, 1954; she graduated as valedictorian
7from Mills Prairie High School in 1972, where she was the
8homecoming queen and a cheerleader; she continued her
9education at Southern Illinois University, where she was in
10the first female athletic class to receive full ride
11scholarships thanks to the newly enacted Title IX, a moment
12that set the tone for her career vigorously advocating for
13equal opportunities in high school athletics; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Vicky King served as a physical education and
15driver education teacher at Carbondale Community High School
16(CCHS), where she also coached softball and girl's golf,
17recording over 250 softball wins and leading the Terriers'
18first girls' golf team to the Illinois High School Association
19State (IHSA) Championship; she also hosted the first IHSA
20State Girls Golf Tournament for six years; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Vicky King later became the athletic director at
22CCHS, the first female to serve in that position in Southern

1Illinois, where she was instrumental in the planning and
2development of Carbondale's new high school and the Super
3Block Sports Complex; during her career, she served for many
4years helping shape athletic policies on the IHSA Legislative
5Committees for Athletic Directors, Principals, and Golf; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Vicky King served as the principal of CCHS until
7her retirement in 2010; even in retirement, she remained
8deeply involved with the district, serving on the CCHS Board
9of Education, and she was eventually inducted into the CCHS
10Hall of Fame for her decades of service to the school
11community; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Vicky King will be remembered as a dedicated
13coach, leader, mentor, and friend by the community, as well as
14a trailblazer in girls' and women's sports in Southern
15Illinois; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we mourn the passing of Vicky L. King and extend our sincere
19condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
20her; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Vicky King as an expression of our
