HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
4Jacqualine Florence Griffin Scott, who passed away on November
57, 2025; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jackie Griffin Scott was born to Jack and Geneva
7Griffin in Cairo on July 7, 1935; she graduated from Sumner
8High School; she attended Tennessee State University and
9graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign in
101958, where she became a member of the Gamma Chapter of Alpha
11Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; after her graduation, she moved to
12Chicago to begin her career and married Donald Crumble; she
13later married Herbert "Herb" Scott Jr.; during the 1970s, she
14attended Governors' State University to further her education;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jackie Griffin Scott taught for Chicago Public
17Schools and the Joliet Public Schools District; she later
18worked as a post-secondary investigator in the Office for
19Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jackie Griffin Scott was a lifelong member of the
21African Methodist Episcopal Church, finally as a member of
22Mayo A.M.E. Church, where she served as president of the local

1Women's Missionary Society; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jackie Griffin Scott led the Community
3Educational Service Center, and she was a founding member of
4the Far South Suburban chapter of the N.A.A.C.P; she served on
5a variety of boards, including Aunt Martha's Social Service
6Agency, the University of Illinois Black Alumni Association,
7and the Advisory Board of the Illinois State Board of
8Education; she was a charter member of the Lambda Tau Omega
9Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she led in
10founding its charitable arm, the Twenty Pearls Foundation,
11Inc., and she served as a mentor to many younger members; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jackie Griffin Scott had a lifelong passion for
13reading and learning about Black history; she loved traveling
14with her friends and grandchildren, visiting Senegal, the
15Grand Canyon, New York City's Broadway, Alaska, Montana, and
16the Boundary Waters of Minnesota, as well as partaking in a
17Disney Cruise; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jackie Griffin Scott served as a second mother to
19many of the children in her life, encouraging them to
20participate in educational opportunities, community
21involvement, political activism, and extracurricular
22activities; she leaves behind a legacy of love, advocacy, and
23commitment to education and community service; and

1    WHEREAS, Jackie Griffin Scott was preceded in death by her
2husband, Herbert; her parents; her siblings, Donald (Ruth)
3Griffin, Toussaint Griffin, Brian Griffin, Aquanetta Polley,
4and Angela Griffin; her sisters-in-law, Martha Griffin and
5Ruth Griffin; and her sister-cousin, Jennine Hightower; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jackie Griffin Scott is survived by her children,
7Dana (Wilber Stuart II) Scott-Person and Charles (Phillippa)
8Scott; her stepdaughters, Kathryn Scott and Maria Scott; four
9grandchildren; her former son-in-law, Timothy (Prenness)
10Person Jr.; her siblings, Jack (Martha) Griffin III, Robert
11(Patty) Griffin, Pierre (Gina) Griffin, and Makeda (James)
12Clayton; her brother-in-law, Daniel (Aquanetta) Polley Sr.;
13her sister-in-law, Cynthia (Toussaint) Griffin; and a host of
14nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; therefore,
15be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we mourn the passing of Jacqualine Florence Griffin Scott and
19extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
20who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Jackie Griffin Scott as an
