HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate KMOX Radio on its 100th 
4anniversary of being on the airwaves; and
 
5    WHEREAS, KMOX hit the airwaves from St. Louis on December 
624, 1925, thanks to civic leaders from Wagner Electric, the 
7St. Louis Globe-Democrat, the Merchants Exchange, and the 
8Mississippi Valley Trust Company; and
 
9    WHEREAS, KMOX has been a pioneer and preeminent leader in 
10news, talk, and sports radio broadcasting since its founding, 
11with prominent broadcasters such as Jack Buck, Joe Buck, Bob 
12Costas, Mike Shannon, Harry Caray, and many more throughout 
13its storied history; and
 
14    WHEREAS, KMOX has been the flagship radio station of the 
1511-time World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals for most of 
16the station's existence, carried by the signal's 50,000 watts 
17across much of the country and beyond; and
 
18    WHEREAS, KMOX was known as having the widest audience of 
19consistent listeners in the country and as one of the most 
20successful and profitable radio stations in the United States;

1    WHEREAS, KMOX has had a slew of prominent guests from a 
2wide range of professions, industries, and backgrounds, 
3including the Reverend Billy Graham, the Dalai Lama, various 
4Catholic Cardinals, Eleanor Roosevelt, and President Bill 
5Clinton, as well as contemporary figures from the political 
6world, including Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski, Secretary of 
7State Alexi Giannoulias, and various other local, state, and 
8national figures from Illinois and across the country; and
 
9    WHEREAS, KMOX continues to lead in news, talk, and sports 
10radio coverage, giving extended coverage to recent events such 
11as the May 16, 2025 tornado damage in Missouri and Illinois and 
12the conclave preceding the selection of Pope Leo XIV and his 
13coronation; and
 
14    WHEREAS, KMOX has adapted to serve the modern listener, 
15expanding its service to be heard on FM radio and various 
16internet streaming mediums in addition to its original AM 
17signal; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
19HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
20we congratulate KMOX Radio on its 100th anniversary of being 
21on the airwaves, thank it for its service covering issues 
22important to Illinoisans, and wish it the best as it enters its

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
3presented to KMOX as an expression of our esteem and respect.
