| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Daviyae |
| 4 | | Keimar Shotwell, who passed away on January 9, 2026; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Daviyae Shotwell was born to LaTanya Denise |
| 6 | | Cobbins and Dwayne Shotwell in Chicago on March 21, 2008; he |
| 7 | | was christened at True Freedom Church, and he later attended |
| 8 | | New Life Covenant Church with his mother; he attended Les |
| 9 | | Finch Learning Tree and Holy Family School before continuing |
| 10 | | his academic journey at LaSalle Language Academy, where he |
| 11 | | studied French and graduated with honors; he then attended |
| 12 | | Noble Street College Prep High School, where he was a senior |
| 13 | | and eagerly looking forward to the many opportunities that lay |
| 14 | | ahead; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Daviyae Shotwell lived with sickle cell disease |
| 16 | | but refused to allow the disease to define his ability to |
| 17 | | thrive; throughout his childhood, he remained actively |
| 18 | | involved in sports and extracurricular activities, |
| 19 | | demonstrating remarkable determination and resilience; he |
| 20 | | played basketball from first through third grade, joined an |
| 21 | | inner-city education program in 2019, where he had the |
| 22 | | opportunity to learn and practice ice hockey for three years, |
| 23 | | and became a member of the Hillside Youth Bowling League in |

| 1 | | 2021; and |
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Daviyae Shotwell was exceptionally intelligent, |
| 3 | | becoming a champion chess player and developing a deep love |
| 4 | | for music; he found great joy in rapping, using it as another |
| 5 | | way to express his creativity and spirit; he also enjoyed |
| 6 | | constructing humorous sayings that were often quoted by others |
| 7 | | and cooking meals for his family and friends; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Daviyae Shotwell was affectionately known by many |
| 9 | | nicknames, including "Diggy", "Duke", "Mr. Smell Good", and |
| 10 | | "Brudda", to name a few; he was a devoted son, brother, nephew, |
| 11 | | and uncle and a true protector of children, possessing a |
| 12 | | special heart for those with differences, showing them |
| 13 | | patience, care, and genuine compassion; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Daviyae Shotwell was preceded in death by his |
| 15 | | grandfathers, Luster V. Davis and Derrek Bernard; his uncle, |
| 16 | | Erick Shotwell; and his special aunt, Cheresse Cobbins; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Daviyae Shotwell is survived by his parents; his |
| 18 | | siblings, Jahnaja "Kueen" Martin, SuJuan Shotwell, and Maurkel |
| 19 | | "Rick" Gills; his nephews and niece, Chanzelor Walker, |
| 20 | | Lavontae Harris, and Cali Harris; his grandmothers, Minnie |
| 21 | | Cobbins and Barbara Shotwell; his godfather, Jerome Davis; his |
| 22 | | godsister, Shamiah Hines; his best friends, Jaezeon Johnson |

| 1 | | and Antwon Lewis; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and |
| 2 | | friends; therefore, be it |
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 4 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 5 | | we mourn the passing of Daviyae Keimar Shotwell and extend our |
| 6 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
| 7 | | and loved him; and be it further |
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 9 | | presented to the family of Daviyae Shotwell as an expression |
| 10 | | of our deepest sympathy. |
