HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Dion's Chicago Dream (DCD), founded by Englewood
3native and United States Navy veteran Dion Dawson in 2020, is a
4non-profit social enterprise that combats food insecurity
5through a logistics-first model, delivering fresh produce
6directly to households across Chicagoland while centering
7quality, dignity, and consistency in service; DCD's flagship
8Dream Deliveries program provides five days worth of fresh
9fruits and vegetables straight to residents' doorsteps,
10immediately improving household food security; and
 
11    WHEREAS, DCD's innovative "last-mile" approach has been
12profiled and recognized regionally and nationally for
13reimagining the traditional, queue-based food distribution
14model, replacing lines and limited hours with direct-to-door
15delivery and dignified access and integrating with health and
16Food-Is-Medicine partners to support prevention and better
17outcomes; and
 
18    WHEREAS, DCD has grown from an early community fridge to a
19county-wide engine for health equity, with program components
20including Dream Deliveries, which are direct home deliveries,
21and the Dream Vault, which is an Amazon-style locker that
22allows recipients to retrieve a full produce box using a
23unique code, extending the access and reach of last-mile

1logistics; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The Dream Vault earned the 2023 Chicago
3Innovation Award, one of the region's highest honors for
4innovation, and it has been highlighted by civic and community
5institutions for modernizing food access infrastructure; and
 
6    WHEREAS, DCD's measurable impact includes millions of
7pounds of fresh produce delivered across the Chicago region
8since 2020, with more than 5.1 million pounds publicly
9documented by mid-2025, and sustained service coverage across
10more than half of Cook County ZIP codes, in excess of 180,
11proving that county-scale logistics capacity can meet
12households where they are; and
 
13    WHEREAS, DCD's model creates local jobs alongside
14nutrition access and living-wage roles for drivers, packers,
15and dispatch workers, and operations have been highlighted by
16workforce and impact investors as an example of social
17enterprise delivering both economic mobility and health equity
18in historically under-resourced neighborhoods; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In national recognition of its nutrition-forward,
20activity-supportive community impact, DCD was selected as a
212024 President's Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition
22Community Leadership Awardee, joining a select group of U.S.

1organizations honored for advancing community well-being
2through fitness and nutrition programming; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dion Dawson, the chief dreamer of DCD, has been
4recognized as a TED Fellow, an Echoing Green Fellow, and an
5Aspen Food Leaders Fellow, honored by the Rockefeller
6Foundation, and named as a member of Crain's Chicago Business
72025 40 Under 40 class of civic leaders, reflecting local,
8national, and global acknowledgment of Chicago-born innovation
9that blends logistics, data, and resident-informed design to
10transform food access; he has also been tapped by leading
11institutions for thought leadership and systems change; and
 
12    WHEREAS, DCD's mission and methods prioritize health
13equity, preventative care, and economic opportunity,
14demonstrating how modern logistics, direct-to-consumer
15delivery, and smart access points can reduce barriers to
16healthy food, support chronic disease prevention, and put
17dignity and agency back into the hands of residents;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we commend Dion's Chicago Dream (DCD) for the organization's
22pioneering leadership in last-mile, direct-to-door produce
23delivery, its innovation in access infrastructure, including

1the Dream Vault, its job creation and local wealth-building,
2and its demonstrable contribution to health equity in
3Illinois; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That we commend DCD's sustained weekly service
5to households across well over 50% of ZIP codes in the
6organization's Cook County service area, its
7multi-million-pound distribution since 2020, and its role as a
8trailblazer in the Food-Is-Medicine movement, setting a
9standard for consistency, accountability, and dignity in
10public-interest logistics; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12presented to the founder and chief dreamer of DCD, Dion
13Dawson, and the Dream Team of DCD as a symbol of our esteem and
14respect.
