HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mabel
4Orange, who passed away on November 12, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mabel Orange was born to Jefferson Sr. and Eloise
6Nethery in Chicago on April 12, 1949; she married Guy Orange
7Jr. on July 1, 1967, and they had two children, Christel and
8Yolanda; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mabel Orange, being hearing-impaired herself,
10carried a deep passion for serving individuals with special
11needs, leading her to a 33-year career at Jesse Spalding,
12where she became one of the first women of color to serve as a
13child welfare attendant under SEIU; she was loved by the
14children she served, and many remembered her heart, her
15patience, and her commitment to their care; she retired with
16immense pride in the work she had done; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mabel Orange committed to her faith at an early
18age and was raised at First Steadfast M.B.C.; after
19retirement, she joined St. John Evangelist M.B.C., where she
20worshiped faithfully until her health failed her in 2022; her
21worship extended beyond church walls, and her social media
22became her ministry, blessing many with praises, prayers, and

1encouragement; she also sang in multiple choirs throughout her
2life, including under Isabel Joseph Johnson, with Chicago Mass
3Choir under Calvin Bridges, and alongside Willie Wilson; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mabel Orange spent her later years traveling with
5family, enjoying time with friends, playing pennies for peace
6of mind, and above all, cherishing every moment with her
7grandchildren, Donnisha and Deon Jr.; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Mabel Orange will be remembered for her love, her
9service, and her unwavering faith; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mabel Orange was preceded in death by her husband
11of 53 years, Guy; her daughter, Yolanda; and her siblings,
12Jefferson Jr., Ronald, Michael, and Myrna; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mabel Orange is survived by her daughter,
14Christel; her grandchildren, Donnisha (Donnell) and Deon Jr.;
15her son-in-law, Deon Sr.; her siblings-in-law, Marilyn and
16Ray; and a host of relatives, friends, and those whose lives
17she touched; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we mourn the passing of Mabel Orange and extend our sincere
21condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
