HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Illinois
4State Police Lieutenant John Herbek (Ret.), who passed away on
5January 16, 2026; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lt. Herbek was born on August 31, 1948; he
7graduated with Illinois State Police Cadet Class 48 in 1970,
8and he was assigned the badge number #1763; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lt. Herbek was originally assigned to District 10
10of the Illinois State Police; he was promoted to corporal on
11July 16, 1979, sergeant on December 16, 1981, master sergeant
12on January 1, 1984, and lieutenant on July 1, 1991; he held a
13variety of critical assignments throughout his career,
14including serving at the Illinois State Police Academy, the
15Springfield Command Center, Inspections and Audits, and the
16Central Vault, and he served as chief of staff for the
17superintendent of the Division of State Troopers; he also
18voluntarily served in District 13 to assist in the response to
19the 1982 Marion tornado outbreak; he retired on December 31,
201998; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Lt. Herbek was an active member of the Retired
22State Police Association of Illinois, the Illinois State

1Police Federal Credit Union, the Illinois State Police
2Heritage Foundation, and Illinois State Police American Legion
3Post 1922; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lt. Herbek was a devoted public servant whose
5career was defined by integrity, service, and pride; he will
6be remembered for his dedication to the Illinois State Police
7and the people he faithfully served; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lt. Herbek is survived by his wife, Barbara;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we mourn the passing of Illinois State Police Lieutenant John
13Herbek (Ret.) and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Lt. Herbek as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
