| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of George | ||||||
| 4 | A. Lanxon of Fairview Heights, who passed away on February 8, | ||||||
| 5 | 2026; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, George Lanxon was born to George N. and Hazel | ||||||
| 7 | (Rujawitz) Lanxon in East Saint Louis on July 23, 1932; he | ||||||
| 8 | served in the Korean War as a member of the United States Army; | ||||||
| 9 | and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, George Lanxon sold steel pilings for L.B. Foster | ||||||
| 11 | Company in Saint Louis, Missouri and later formed his own | ||||||
| 12 | business, George A. Lanxon Piling Sales, Inc., which supplied | ||||||
| 13 | steel pilings for bridge construction; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, George Lanxon served as mayor of the City of | ||||||
| 15 | Fairview Heights from 1979 to 1995; he was instrumental in the | ||||||
| 16 | formation of the 911 emergency system and was a former | ||||||
| 17 | chairman of the City's Board of Fire and Police Commissioners | ||||||
| 18 | and the East-West Gateway Council of Governments; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, George Lanxon was a charter member of the | ||||||
| 20 | Fairview Heights Rotary Club and a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow; | ||||||
| 21 | he was a member of such community organizations as the | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Salvation Army Board and the BackStoppers; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, George Lanxon will be remembered for his | ||||||
| 3 | leadership, friendship, and ability to bring people together | ||||||
| 4 | and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the City | ||||||
| 5 | he loved; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, George Lanxon was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 7 | parents and his sister, Joan (Tom) Lonergan; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, George Lanxon is survived by his wife, Barbara J. | ||||||
| 9 | "Bobbie" (Gavett) Lanxon; his children, Michael (Judith) | ||||||
| 10 | Lanxon, Julie Gaskin, and Kevin Lanxon; seven grandchildren; | ||||||
| 11 | ten great-grandchildren; and his brother-in-law, Stewart L. | ||||||
| 12 | (Susan) Gavett; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 14 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we mourn the passing of George A. Lanxon and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 16 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 17 | him; and be it further | ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the family of George Lanxon as an expression of | ||||||
| 20 | our deepest sympathy. | ||||||
