HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of William D. "Bill" Marass of Springfield, who passed away on February 9, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Bill Marass, the son of William A. and Ellen Jane (Kells) Marass, was born in Elgin on April 18, 1952; he served in the United States Marine Corps; he received his bachelor's degree in law enforcement from Western Illinois University; he married Kelly Fountain; and

WHEREAS, Bill Marass dedicated his career to public service, serving as a police officer for the Village of Rochester from October 15, 1981 through October 31, 2016; during his tenure, he held the position of police chief from February 10, 1997 until his retirement; he also furthered his professional accomplishments by graduating from the FBI Academy, Session 215, in 2002; and

WHEREAS, Bill Marass cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Bill Marass was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Pamela Pearson; and his father-in-law, Larry Fountain; and

WHEREAS, Bill Marass is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kelly; his children, Andrea Marass, Matthew (Tiffani) Marass, and Kimberly Marass; five grandchildren; his siblings, Michael (Carlos Torres) Marass and Kathleen (Carlos) Acevedo; his brother-in-law, Loring Pearson; his mother-in-law, Cindy Fountain; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William D. "Bill" Marass and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bill Marass as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
