| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Tribute to Valor Foundation was founded in |
| 3 | | 2018 as an all-volunteer organization focused on influencing, |
| 4 | | inspiring, and impacting the youth of America to ask |
| 5 | | themselves "Who Am I?" and to answer by reflecting on the six |
| 6 | | core character values derived from our nation's highest |
| 7 | | military decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The Tribute to Valor Foundation works to help the |
| 9 | | youth of America to understand, engage in, and incorporate |
| 10 | | into their daily lives the core values of the Medal of Honor; |
| 11 | | and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The six core values of the Medal of Honor are |
| 13 | | courage, sacrifice, patriotism, citizenship, integrity, and |
| 14 | | commitment; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Courage is the mental and moral strength to face |
| 16 | | fear, danger, and adversity, and includes both physical and |
| 17 | | moral courage, and it is the willingness to stand up for what |
| 18 | | is right, even when it is unpopular or difficult, and the |
| 19 | | strength to defend those that are disenfranchised or |
| 20 | | mistreated; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Sacrifice is a voluntary act of surrendering |

| 1 | | personal interests for a greater cause and involves a selfless |
| 2 | | surrender of one's own interests or well-being for the |
| 3 | | betterment of another, and it is often considered an act of |
| 4 | | love or a demonstration of a deeper principle; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Patriotism is a devotion to and defense of the |
| 6 | | ideals of our country and is a sense of purpose derived from |
| 7 | | supporting the nation and its freedoms, and it manifests |
| 8 | | through disciplined service, commitment, and a belief in |
| 9 | | something greater than oneself; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Citizenship is the status of being a responsible |
| 11 | | member of a community, which includes both rights and |
| 12 | | responsibilities, and it means understanding your rights and |
| 13 | | duties, following rules, respecting others, and contributing |
| 14 | | positively to your community through actions such as teamwork |
| 15 | | and helping others; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Integrity is the desire to do what is right, |
| 17 | | legally and morally, which includes honesty, a firm adherence |
| 18 | | to moral and ethical principles, and acting consistently with |
| 19 | | one's values even when no one is watching, and it means being |
| 20 | | truthful and upright, saying what you mean, and doing what you |
| 21 | | say, with integrity forming the foundation of trust, a value |
| 22 | | that requires both personal moral courage and a commitment; |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Commitment is a pledge or an obligation to do |
| 2 | | something in the present and future, including a strong |
| 3 | | dedication to a cause, a person, or an activity, and it is the |
| 4 | | belief that giving your word and standing behind it is |
| 5 | | honorable and that you fulfill your promise despite any |
| 6 | | obstacles or adversity you might face; and |
| 7 | | WHEREAS, By empowering the youth of America to face |
| 8 | | adversity and changing circumstances with the core values of |
| 9 | | the Medal of Honor, the Tribute to Valor Foundation hopes the |
| 10 | | next generation will gain the strength to make choices of |
| 11 | | which they can be proud and that will help them to become |
| 12 | | better citizens; therefore, be it |
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 14 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 15 | | we commend the Tribute to Valor Foundation and its mission to |
| 16 | | inspire the youth of America and all people to ask themselves |
| 17 | | the question "Who Am I?" and to answer by reflecting on the six |
| 18 | | core values of the Medal of Honor. |
