HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Tardifay
4(Horton) Jackson, who passed away on February 13, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson was born to Charlie Lee and
6Bessie Jefferson Horton in Chattanooga, Tennessee on January
77, 1936; she attended East 5th Street Elementary School in
8Chattanooga and received a bachelor's degree in education from
9Tennessee State University in Nashville, where she pledged
10Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; she also attended Chicago
11Teachers College, known today as Chicago State University, and
12earned a master's degree from Northeastern Illinois
13University; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson met James Jackson while
15attending Tennessee State University, and they married in a
16chapel at Fort Rucker, Alabama; upon graduation, they moved to
17the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois; through
18their union, they had one child, Adrienne; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson initially taught in the Chicago
20Public Schools on Chicago's West Side and then accepted a
21position at Madison Elementary School in South Holland School
22District 151, where she worked for more than 25 years; during

1her career, she was a celebrated educator who was known for her
2extraordinary ability in teaching students how to read; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson committed to her faith at an
4early age; in her youth, she and her family attended Tucker
5Baptist Church, and she was baptized in July 1947; as an adult,
6she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church on Chicago's South
7Side, where she served on the Education and Scholarship Board
8and taught Vacation Bible School in the summers; she was also a
9den mother for the Cub Scouts of America; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson loved spending time and
11traveling with her grandson, Quintin, and she was referred to
12as his "taxi-granny" for her willingness to drive him
13everywhere, especially to Burger King; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson was preceded in death by her
15parents; her former husband; and her siblings, Ernest and
16Gloria; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Tardifay Jackson is survived by her daughter,
18Adrienne (Michael); her grandson, Quintin; her sister, Doris
19Horton; and a host of relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we mourn the passing of Tardifay (Horton) Jackson and extend
2our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who
3knew and loved her; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Tardifay Jackson as an expression
6of our deepest sympathy.
