HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Bushnell Veterans of
4Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #1422 on the occasion of its 100th
5anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Since its inception, Bushnell VFW Post #1422 has
7been an institution dedicated to the service of local veterans
8and their families; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Bushnell VFW Post #1422 has regularly hosted
10events for veterans and residents alike over the years,
11including Memorial Day and Veteran Day services and Loyalty
12Day parades, with residents describing the post as a fun place
13to have a drink and hang out; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The City of Bushnell has a proud military
15tradition dating back to World War I, when 200 out of 3,000
16residents enlisted in the United States Armed Forces, which
17was more than 25% of those who enlisted from McDonough County;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Bushnell VFW Post #1422 has remained a cherished
20institution for its service to the community, such as when its
21members purchased land to establish Memorial Park in 1947,

1eventually donating the 19-acre park to the City of Bushnell
2in 1989 with hopes of the property being enjoyed for
3generations; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bushnell VFW Post #1422 has always striven to
5honor local veterans, with the organization hosting reunions
6for veterans and decorating graves of fallen veterans and
7through its countless donations and acts of charity for
8veterans over the years; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we congratulate the Bushnell Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
12Post #1422 on celebrating 100 years of service to the veterans
13and community of the City of Bushnell; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15presented to Bushnell VFW Post #1422 Commander Ken McCance and
16Auxiliary President Bev Powell as an expression of our esteem
17and respect.
