HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Bushnell Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #1422 on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, Bushnell VFW Post #1422 has been an institution dedicated to the service of local veterans and their families; and

WHEREAS, Bushnell VFW Post #1422 has regularly hosted events for veterans and residents alike over the years, including Memorial Day and Veteran Day services and Loyalty Day parades, with residents describing the post as a fun place to have a drink and hang out; and

WHEREAS, The City of Bushnell has a proud military tradition dating back to World War I, when 200 out of 3,000 residents enlisted in the United States Armed Forces, which was more than 25% of those who enlisted from McDonough County; and

WHEREAS, Bushnell VFW Post #1422 has remained a cherished institution for its service to the community, such as when its members purchased land to establish Memorial Park in 1947, eventually donating the 19-acre park to the City of Bushnell in 1989 with hopes of the property being enjoyed for generations; and

WHEREAS, Bushnell VFW Post #1422 has always striven to honor local veterans, with the organization hosting reunions for veterans and decorating graves of fallen veterans and through its countless donations and acts of charity for veterans over the years; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Bushnell Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #1422 on celebrating 100 years of service to the veterans and community of the City of Bushnell; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Bushnell VFW Post #1422 Commander Ken McCance and Auxiliary President Bev Powell as an expression of our esteem and respect.
