HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Police Chief Eric Hefel,
4chief of police for the City of Galena, after an extraordinary
5career with the Galena Police Department; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Chief Hefel began his local law enforcement
7career in East Dubuque before joining the Galena Police
8Department; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Chief Hefel rose through the ranks in Galena,
10starting as a patrolman and then becoming a sergeant,
11investigator, and lieutenant before being appointed the chief
12of police in 2021, where he led a community-oriented policing
13approach, emphasizing dignity, respect, and citizen
14partnerships; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Chief Hefel was actively
16involved in narcotics enforcement throughout Northwest
17Illinois, resulting in numerous methamphetamine arrests; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Chief Hefel attended DEA Clandestine Laboratory
19Training at the DEA Academy in Quantico, Virginia, where he
20was trained in methamphetamine production methods, safe entry
21and dismantling of labs, evidence collection, and hazards; and

1    WHEREAS, In 2011, Chief Hefel joined the Galena Police
2Department, where he was part of the Jo Daviess County
3Critical Response Team that investigated the case of a
4disappeared 14-year-old whose remains were later found in 2013
5behind the family home after she was abused, strangled, and
6murdered by her stepfather; and
 
7    WHEREAS, In 2014, the investigative team was invited to a
8congressional breakfast in Washington, D.C., where its members
9received the National Missing and Exploited Children's Award
10from the NCMEC for their work on the case; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Chief Hefel has made a lasting impact on not only
12the police department but on the entire City of Galena;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we congratulate Police Chief Eric Hefel on his retirement,
17thank him for his years of service to his community and to the
18State of Illinois, and wish him the best in his future
19endeavors; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Chief Hefel as an expression of our esteem and
