| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Police Chief Eric Hefel, | ||||||
| 4 | chief of police for the City of Galena, after an extraordinary | ||||||
| 5 | career with the Galena Police Department; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Chief Hefel began his local law enforcement | ||||||
| 7 | career in East Dubuque before joining the Galena Police | ||||||
| 8 | Department; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Chief Hefel rose through the ranks in Galena, | ||||||
| 10 | starting as a patrolman and then becoming a sergeant, | ||||||
| 11 | investigator, and lieutenant before being appointed the chief | ||||||
| 12 | of police in 2021, where he led a community-oriented policing | ||||||
| 13 | approach, emphasizing dignity, respect, and citizen | ||||||
| 14 | partnerships; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Chief Hefel was actively | ||||||
| 16 | involved in narcotics enforcement throughout Northwest | ||||||
| 17 | Illinois, resulting in numerous methamphetamine arrests; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Chief Hefel attended DEA Clandestine Laboratory | ||||||
| 19 | Training at the DEA Academy in Quantico, Virginia, where he | ||||||
| 20 | was trained in methamphetamine production methods, safe entry | ||||||
| 21 | and dismantling of labs, evidence collection, and hazards; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, In 2011, Chief Hefel joined the Galena Police | ||||||
| 2 | Department, where he was part of the Jo Daviess County | ||||||
| 3 | Critical Response Team that investigated the case of a | ||||||
| 4 | disappeared 14-year-old whose remains were later found in 2013 | ||||||
| 5 | behind the family home after she was abused, strangled, and | ||||||
| 6 | murdered by her stepfather; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, In 2014, the investigative team was invited to a | ||||||
| 8 | congressional breakfast in Washington, D.C., where its members | ||||||
| 9 | received the National Missing and Exploited Children's Award | ||||||
| 10 | from the NCMEC for their work on the case; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Chief Hefel has made a lasting impact on not only | ||||||
| 12 | the police department but on the entire City of Galena; | ||||||
| 13 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 15 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 16 | we congratulate Police Chief Eric Hefel on his retirement, | ||||||
| 17 | thank him for his years of service to his community and to the | ||||||
| 18 | State of Illinois, and wish him the best in his future | ||||||
| 19 | endeavors; and be it further | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Chief Hefel as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
