HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Matt Tumbleson on his 
4professional accomplishments and exceptional leadership in the 
5National Basketball Association; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Matt Tumbleson was raised in the Village of Buda 
7in Bureau County, where he learned the values of hard work, 
8humility, and community that have guided him throughout his 
9life and career; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Matt Tumbleson attended Bureau Valley High 
11School, where he distinguished himself as a student and 
12emerging leader and his early interest in athletics and 
13communications began to develop; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Matt Tumbleson attended Illinois State 
15University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations 
16and Political Science and gaining hands-on experience through 
17student media organizations that prepared him for a career in 
18professional sports communications; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Following his graduation, Matt Tumbleson embarked 
20on a distinguished career in the National Basketball 
21Association (NBA), holding communications and media relations

1positions with the San Antonio Spurs, New Jersey Nets, and 
2Memphis Grizzlies, where he earned respect for his 
3professionalism and strategic insight; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Matt Tumbleson joined the Oklahoma City Thunder 
5in 2011, where he rose to the position of Vice President of 
6Basketball Communications, overseeing media relations, public 
7engagement, and organizational storytelling for one of the 
8NBA's most respected franchises; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Matt Tumbleson played a pivotal role in the 
10public relations and communications efforts surrounding the 
112024-2025 NBA season, including the successful campaign that 
12culminated in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander being named the NBA Most 
13Valuable Player in 2025, highlighting Matt's leadership and 
14expertise at the highest level of professional sports; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Matt Tumbleson has remained deeply committed to 
16giving back to Illinois, maintaining strong ties to Bureau 
17Valley High School and Illinois State University, where he 
18regularly supports students through mentorship, professional 
19guidance, internships, and engagement with the University's 
20recently launched sports communications program; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Through these efforts, Matt Tumbleson has helped 
22inspire and prepare the next generation of Illinois students

1for careers in communications, media, and professional 
2athletics; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Matt Tumbleson is also known for his dedication 
4to family and is a loving husband and devoted father who 
5exemplifies the values of integrity and balance in both his 
6personal and professional life; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Matt Tumbleson is the proud son of Linda and Dan 
8Tumbleson, who continue to reside in Bureau County and whose 
9ongoing connection to the community reflects the enduring 
10roots of the Tumbleson family in the State of Illinois; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Matt Tumbleson's achievements stand as a 
12testament to the opportunities afforded by Illinois 
13communities and institutions and to the impact that committed 
14and talented individuals can have on a national and 
15international stage; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
17HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
18we congratulate Matt Tumbleson on his outstanding professional 
19accomplishments, commend his leadership in the National 
20Basketball Association, and thank him for his continued 
21service and contributions to his hometown, his alma mater, and 
22the State of Illinois; and be it further
