HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Canada is the United States' largest trading 
3partner and the State of Illinois' leading international trade 
4partner, supporting thousands of jobs and billions of dollars 
5in economic activity across the State; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Illinois and Canada share deep and long-standing 
7economic, cultural, educational, and diplomatic ties, 
8including cooperation in manufacturing, agriculture, energy, 
9transportation, higher education, and tourism; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Canadian businesses employ tens of thousands of 
11Illinois residents, and Illinois-based companies maintain 
12significant investments and operations throughout Canada; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Continued engagement and collaboration with 
14Canadian federal, provincial, and local partners strengthens 
15Illinois' economy, advances shared policy goals, and promotes 
16mutual understanding and cooperation; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The creation of a legislative caucus dedicated to 
18fostering and enhancing relations between Illinois and Canada, 
19with membership open to all interested members of the Illinois 
20General Assembly and chaired by Rep. Joyce Mason, with 
21Republican and Senate co-chairs to be determined, provides a

1forum for dialogue, education, and unity among its members; 
2therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
4HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we congratulate the Canadian Friendship Caucus on its 
6formation to promote and strengthen economic, cultural, 
7educational, and governmental relationships between the State 
8of Illinois and Canada, to facilitate the exchange of 
9information on matters of mutual interest, and to support 
10policies and initiatives that enhance cross-border 
11cooperation.
