| 2 | | WHEREAS, U.S. troops who served in Honduras from 1981 to |
| 3 | | 1992 earned 47 Purple Hearts, 2 POW Medals, and 4 Air Medals; |
| 4 | | and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, U.S. troops served as advisors to the Honduran |
| 6 | | military and provided training and other exercises to |
| 7 | | strengthen the Honduran military to resist and deter |
| 8 | | Nicaraguan aggression; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Despite these feats, President Clinton and |
| 10 | | Congress awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal in 1996 |
| 11 | | to veterans who served in El Salvador from 1981 to 1992, but |
| 12 | | they did not award the same honors to the veterans who served |
| 13 | | in Honduras; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The efforts of these veterans should not remain |
| 15 | | undervalued, as their efforts and sacrifices were as crucial |
| 16 | | to preventing the spread of communism in Central America as |
| 17 | | those in El Salvador; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, The service of the veterans in Honduras is |
| 19 | | certainly befitting of an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, as |
| 20 | | U.S. troops were injured and some lost their lives due to |
| 21 | | terrorist activity and otherwise hazardous events that |
