HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois State 
4Archives on the occasion of the Illinois Regional Archives 
5Depository (IRAD) system's 50th anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The IRAD system was established July 1, 1976 as a 
7program of the Illinois State Archives to preserve local 
8government agency records that possess permanent 
9administrative, legal, or historical research value; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The IRAD system has made local government records 
11available to the public; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The IRAD system consists of seven depositories 
13located on the campuses of Eastern Illinois University, 
14Illinois State University, Northeastern Illinois University, 
15Northern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, 
16Western Illinois University, and the University of Illinois 
17Springfield; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Depositories in the IRAD system are staffed with 
19graduate student interns who are provided with training in 
20basic archival principles and research skills; and

1    WHEREAS, The IRAD system has served local government 
2agencies by providing safe and secure storage for their 
3permanently valuable records; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The IRAD system has provided reference services 
5to thousands of individuals, including scholars, family 
6historians, lawyers, historical societies, and journalists; 
7therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
9HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
10we congratulate the Illinois State Archives and its Illinois 
11Regional Archives Depository (IRAD) system on providing 50 
12years of outstanding service; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
14presented to the Illinois State Archives as an expression of 
15our esteem and respect.
