HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to mark the death of Murod Kurdi
4of Oak Lawn, who passed away on June 5, 2023, at the age of 28;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Murod Kurdi was a beloved son, brother, and
7member of the Oak Lawn community; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Murod Kurdi was a lifelong student of the Oak
9Lawn public school system where his mother worked and
10volunteered, contributing to the well-being of thousands of
11students; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Murod Kurdi was a Palestinian American, belonging
13to the largest diaspora of Palestinians in the United States,
14which is here in the State of Illinois; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Murod Kurdi lost his life tragically in an
16alcohol-involved traffic accident when he was struck by a
17vehicle while standing outside his home near 91st Street and
18Tulley Avenue in Oak Lawn; and
 
19    WHEREAS, According to the Illinois Department of
20Transportation's 2024 Illinois Crash Facts & Statistics

1report, there were 1,085 fatal crashes statewide in 2024, and
220.4% involved alcohol; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Murod Kurdi was deeply loved by his family and
4community, whose grief was met with an outpouring of support
5from neighbors, activists, and fellow residents who rallied in
6his honor to call for justice; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Murod Kurdi's passing has left an irreplaceable
8void in the lives of all who knew and loved him; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Murod Kurdi is survived by his mother, Fadia
10Muhamad, his brother, Suphi Kurdi, and other cherished family
11members; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn the passing of Murod Kurdi and extend our sincere
15condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Murod Kurdi as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
