| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of David | ||||||
| 4 | Lynn Walter, who passed away on May 2, 2026; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, David Walter, the son of Joseph August and Lillie | ||||||
| 6 | Belva (Epps) Walter, was born in Edwardsville on May 27, 1936; | ||||||
| 7 | he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in | ||||||
| 8 | Music Education with high honors at Eastern Illinois | ||||||
| 9 | University and received administrative credentials from | ||||||
| 10 | Northwestern University; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, David Walter began his 34-year music teaching | ||||||
| 12 | career as the choral director of Lincoln High School and | ||||||
| 13 | Lincoln College; he subsequently taught music at Glenbrook | ||||||
| 14 | North High School in north suburban Chicago for 33 years, | ||||||
| 15 | serving as choral director, instructional supervisor, and | ||||||
| 16 | district co-manager for school restructuring; he was elected | ||||||
| 17 | president of the Glenbrook Educators' Association and was a | ||||||
| 18 | member of the national test development committee for Advanced | ||||||
| 19 | Placement Music prior to his retirement in 1994; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, David Walter sang as the principal second tenor | ||||||
| 21 | of the Chicago Symphony Chorus, where he was appointed | ||||||
| 22 | apprentice conductor and was honored as a scholarship student | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | in orchestral conducting; as choir master of the Libertyville | ||||||
| 2 | Presbyterian Church, he was gifted the Outstanding Jaycee | ||||||
| 3 | Young Educator Award for suburban Cook County; he also | ||||||
| 4 | received a National Science Foundation Scholarship for | ||||||
| 5 | Advanced Study in Baroque Music; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, After moving to New Mexico in 1995, David Walter | ||||||
| 7 | helped to found the charter school East Mountain High School | ||||||
| 8 | in 2000, serving as chair of its governing council in the | ||||||
| 9 | following years; he conducted the East Mountain Community | ||||||
| 10 | Chorus' annual performance of MESSIAH, served as community | ||||||
| 11 | liaison for the Paa-Ko Communities, was named an East Mountain | ||||||
| 12 | Outstanding Citizen in 2012, and received the East Mountain | ||||||
| 13 | High School Foundation Roger Cox Spirit of Giving Award in | ||||||
| 14 | 2014; he later served on the board of the World Affairs Council | ||||||
| 15 | of Albuquerque; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, David Walter was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals | ||||||
| 17 | fan, an avid tennis player, and a passionate walker who | ||||||
| 18 | enjoyed projects involving organization and detail; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, David Walter will be remembered as a kind, | ||||||
| 20 | gentle, and gracious man; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, David Walter was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
| 22 | and his older brothers, Gregor Lee, Joseph Wayne, and Kenneth | ||||||

| 1 | James; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, David Walter is survived by his wife of 45 years, | ||||||
| 3 | Jean; his son, Steven; and his grandsons, Harrison and | ||||||
| 4 | Solomon; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 6 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 7 | we mourn the passing of David Lynn Walter and extend our | ||||||
| 8 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
| 9 | and loved him; and be it further | ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 11 | presented to the family of David Walter as an expression of our | ||||||
| 12 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
