HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of David
4Lynn Walter, who passed away on May 2, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, David Walter, the son of Joseph August and Lillie
6Belva (Epps) Walter, was born in Edwardsville on May 27, 1936;
7he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in
8Music Education with high honors at Eastern Illinois
9University and received administrative credentials from
10Northwestern University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, David Walter began his 34-year music teaching
12career as the choral director of Lincoln High School and
13Lincoln College; he subsequently taught music at Glenbrook
14North High School in north suburban Chicago for 33 years,
15serving as choral director, instructional supervisor, and
16district co-manager for school restructuring; he was elected
17president of the Glenbrook Educators' Association and was a
18member of the national test development committee for Advanced
19Placement Music prior to his retirement in 1994; and
 
20    WHEREAS, David Walter sang as the principal second tenor
21of the Chicago Symphony Chorus, where he was appointed
22apprentice conductor and was honored as a scholarship student

1in orchestral conducting; as choir master of the Libertyville
2Presbyterian Church, he was gifted the Outstanding Jaycee
3Young Educator Award for suburban Cook County; he also
4received a National Science Foundation Scholarship for
5Advanced Study in Baroque Music; and
 
6    WHEREAS, After moving to New Mexico in 1995, David Walter
7helped to found the charter school East Mountain High School
8in 2000, serving as chair of its governing council in the
9following years; he conducted the East Mountain Community
10Chorus' annual performance of MESSIAH, served as community
11liaison for the Paa-Ko Communities, was named an East Mountain
12Outstanding Citizen in 2012, and received the East Mountain
13High School Foundation Roger Cox Spirit of Giving Award in
142014; he later served on the board of the World Affairs Council
15of Albuquerque; and
 
16    WHEREAS, David Walter was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals
17fan, an avid tennis player, and a passionate walker who
18enjoyed projects involving organization and detail; and
 
19    WHEREAS, David Walter will be remembered as a kind,
20gentle, and gracious man; and
 
21    WHEREAS, David Walter was preceded in death by his parents
22and his older brothers, Gregor Lee, Joseph Wayne, and Kenneth

2    WHEREAS, David Walter is survived by his wife of 45 years,
3Jean; his son, Steven; and his grandsons, Harrison and
4Solomon; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we mourn the passing of David Lynn Walter and extend our
8sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
9and loved him; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of David Walter as an expression of our
12deepest sympathy.
