| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Terrence | ||||||
| 4 | P. "Terry" Fitzmaurice, who passed away on March 18, 2026; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice was born on May 31, 1955; he | ||||||
| 6 | graduated from Washburne Trade School in 1981, and he | ||||||
| 7 | completed an apprenticeship with Ruffalo Painting; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice started his career when he was | ||||||
| 9 | initiated into Local Union 194 in 1978, where he served in | ||||||
| 10 | numerous roles, including conductor, trustee, vice president, | ||||||
| 11 | and president; he began working as a painter at O'Hare | ||||||
| 12 | International Airport for the City of Chicago in 1982, where | ||||||
| 13 | he rose through the ranks to become a foreman; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice was appointed business | ||||||
| 15 | representative for Painters District Council 14, and he was | ||||||
| 16 | later appointed as business manager/secretary-treasurer in | ||||||
| 17 | 2005; he worked tirelessly on behalf of union members securing | ||||||
| 18 | employment opportunities, resolving disputes with contractors, | ||||||
| 19 | protecting fair wages and benefits, negotiating collective | ||||||
| 20 | bargaining agreements, helping lower retirement age | ||||||
| 21 | requirements for members, and introducing initiatives such as | ||||||
| 22 | union newsletters and safety recognition programs; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice served as a trustee for the | ||||||
| 2 | Chicago Building Trades, a member of the Chicago Federation of | ||||||
| 3 | Labor Executive Board, and a trustee of the Painters and | ||||||
| 4 | Decorators Welfare and Pension Fund; he also contributed to | ||||||
| 5 | public policy, playing a role in the development of Illinois | ||||||
| 6 | Senate Bill 1281, which established statewide corrosion | ||||||
| 7 | prevention standards; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice was honored by the Illinois | ||||||
| 9 | General Assembly in recognition of his lasting contributions | ||||||
| 10 | to the labor movement and to the lives of countless union | ||||||
| 11 | members and their families; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice leaves behind a legacy of | ||||||
| 13 | steadfast leadership, advocacy, and service; he will be | ||||||
| 14 | remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but | ||||||
| 15 | for his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of | ||||||
| 16 | working people across the Chicago region; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 18 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 19 | we mourn the passing of Terrence P. "Terry" Fitzmaurice and | ||||||
| 20 | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all | ||||||
| 21 | who knew and loved him; and be it further | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 2 | presented to the family of Terry Fitzmaurice as an expression | ||||||
