HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Terrence
4P. "Terry" Fitzmaurice, who passed away on March 18, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice was born on May 31, 1955; he
6graduated from Washburne Trade School in 1981, and he
7completed an apprenticeship with Ruffalo Painting; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice started his career when he was
9initiated into Local Union 194 in 1978, where he served in
10numerous roles, including conductor, trustee, vice president,
11and president; he began working as a painter at O'Hare
12International Airport for the City of Chicago in 1982, where
13he rose through the ranks to become a foreman; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice was appointed business
15representative for Painters District Council 14, and he was
16later appointed as business manager/secretary-treasurer in
172005; he worked tirelessly on behalf of union members securing
18employment opportunities, resolving disputes with contractors,
19protecting fair wages and benefits, negotiating collective
20bargaining agreements, helping lower retirement age
21requirements for members, and introducing initiatives such as
22union newsletters and safety recognition programs; and

1    WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice served as a trustee for the
2Chicago Building Trades, a member of the Chicago Federation of
3Labor Executive Board, and a trustee of the Painters and
4Decorators Welfare and Pension Fund; he also contributed to
5public policy, playing a role in the development of Illinois
6Senate Bill 1281, which established statewide corrosion
7prevention standards; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice was honored by the Illinois
9General Assembly in recognition of his lasting contributions
10to the labor movement and to the lives of countless union
11members and their families; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Terry Fitzmaurice leaves behind a legacy of
13steadfast leadership, advocacy, and service; he will be
14remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but
15for his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of
16working people across the Chicago region; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we mourn the passing of Terrence P. "Terry" Fitzmaurice and
20extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
21who knew and loved him; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Terry Fitzmaurice as an expression
3of our deepest sympathy.
