HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Illinois park districts, forest preserve
3districts, conservation districts, recreation departments, and
4special recreation associations enrich communities by
5promoting health and wellness, supporting youth development,
6fostering inclusion and accessibility, and creating meaningful
7opportunities for residents of all ages, abilities, and
8backgrounds to connect with one another and with nature; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Local park and recreation agencies play an
10essential role in conserving natural resources, restoring
11native habitats, protecting wildlife, and preserving open
12spaces while helping children and families develop a lifelong
13appreciation for the outdoors through hands-on experiences
14throughout parks, trails, prairies, and forests; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Park and recreation agencies contribute
16significantly to the economic vitality of Illinois by creating
17jobs, attracting tourism, increasing property values,
18strengthening local tax bases, enhancing quality of life, and
19making communities more attractive places to live, work, and
20invest; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of Park Districts and
22its member agencies have established Illinois as a national

1leader in parks, recreation, and conservation by providing
2residents with exceptional parks, open spaces, and
3recreational programs; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we declare July 2026 as Park and Recreation Month in the State
7of Illinois to celebrate the dedicated agencies' locally
8elected commissioners, professionals, and volunteers whose
9work enhances the quality of life for millions of Illinois
10residents and underscores the power of parks and recreation to
11build healthier, more connected, and more resilient
12communities.
