| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former | ||||||
| 4 | State Representative David K. Deets, M.D., who passed away on | ||||||
| 5 | May 18, 2026; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Deets was born to Edgar and Marian (Gilbert) | ||||||
| 7 | Deets in Dixon on March 22, 1947; he graduated from DePauw | ||||||
| 8 | University in Greencastle, Indiana, and he received his | ||||||
| 9 | medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of | ||||||
| 10 | Medicine; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Dr. Deets married Kathryne Olson, who passed away | ||||||
| 12 | in 1981; he later married Jan Welker Gunnon on April 28, 2001; | ||||||
| 13 | and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Deets was a beloved physician and surgeon at | ||||||
| 15 | KSB hospital in Dixon, retiring before the hospital changed | ||||||
| 16 | its name to St. Katharine Medical Center; he also served on the | ||||||
| 17 | Lee County Board, the Illinois State Medical Society Review | ||||||
| 18 | Board, and as a deputy coroner for Lee County; he was a member | ||||||
| 19 | of Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association (NRA); | ||||||
| 20 | and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Dr. Deets served as the co-chair of the Hometown | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Coordination Committee that organized President Ronald | ||||||
| 2 | Reagan's trip to Dixon for the president's birthday in 1984, | ||||||
| 3 | presenting President Reagan with a birthday cake; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Dr. Deets served in the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 5 | Representatives from 1992 to 1993, representing the Dixon area | ||||||
| 6 | in the then 73rd Legislative District, completing the term of | ||||||
| 7 | the late Representative Myron J. Olson who died unexpectedly; | ||||||
| 8 | and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Deets distinguished himself throughout his | ||||||
| 10 | career as a public servant who helped people in multiple | ||||||
| 11 | roles; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Dr. Deets was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 13 | and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Deets is survived by his wife of 25 years, | ||||||
| 15 | Jan; his children, Christopher (Jennifer) Deets, Amy (Joseph) | ||||||
| 16 | Jasmon, David (Lara Cooper) Deets, and Edward (McAley) Deets; | ||||||
| 17 | his stepchildren, Christopher (Aluinn) Gunnon, DVM, Jeffrey | ||||||
| 18 | (Jennifer) Gunnon, and Katherine (Joshua) McNitt; 17 | ||||||
| 19 | grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren with one on the | ||||||
| 20 | way; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||

| 1 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 2 | we mourn the passing of David K. Deets, M.D. and extend our | ||||||
| 3 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
| 4 | and loved him; and be it further | ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 6 | presented to the family of Dr. Deets as an expression of our | ||||||
| 7 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
