HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, A native of Illinois since 1948, Representative
3Paul Jacobs grew up in Pomona in the heart of the Illinois
4Ozarks; and
 
5    WHEREAS, For 47 years, Rep. Jacobs has practiced optometry
6in Southern Illinois, with a focus on Anna and Carbondale; as a
7professional and a Southern Illinoisan, he and his wife,
8Rhoda, have raised four children, and they now have 10
9grandchildren; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In addition to his profession, Rep. Jacobs and
11his wife, Rhoda, have experience in Southern Illinois
12business, having operated the Von Jakob Vineyard in Alto Pass,
13which is within the Southern Illinois wine country, for more
14than 20 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Based upon his life experiences as a
16professional, a businessperson, and a Christian, Rep. Jacobs
17ran in 2020 for the vacancy left by another State
18Representative, Terri Bryant, as she moved to the State
19Senate; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Upon his election in November 2020 and upon
21joining the 102nd General Assembly, Rep. Jacobs began to fight

1for fiscal responsibility, ethics, and his neighbors of
2Southern Illinois, and he has continued this fight through the
3sessions of the 103rd and 104th General Assemblies; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Of equal or greater importance than his position
5on issues has been Rep. Jacobs' standing and position as a good
6neighbor, a good friend, and a community leader; as a member of
7the Illinois House, he has been a lawmaker known for
8conscientious attention to constituent service and helping his
9neighbors; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In addition to these vocations and achievements,
11Rep. Jacobs served for six years, from 1965 to 1971, in the
12United States Navy during the height of the Cold War;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we bid a fond farewell to State Representative Paul Jacobs as
17he pursues this new chapter of his life; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That we congratulate Rep. Jacobs for his
19dedicated service in the Illinois House of Representatives and
20to his faith, his colleagues, his constituents, and most of
21all, his family; and be it further
