AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1446 

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1446 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The State Fire Marshal Act is amended by 
5adding Section 5 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 2905/5 new)
7    Sec. 5. Tracking firefighter mortality. Beginning no later 
8than 6 months after the effective date of this amendatory Act 
9of the 104th General Assembly, all fire departments and units 
10of local government that provide fire protection services in 
11this State shall report the death of any active firefighter, 
12including the cause and manner of death, to the Office. The 
13information provided to the Office shall include, but is not 
14limited to, any deaths resulting from suicide and the various 
15types of cancer. If a firefighter separates from a fire 
16department or unit of local government with a known cancer

1diagnosis and succumbs to that cancer within 12 months after 
2separation, the fire department or unit of local government 
3shall also report that death to the Office. The Office shall 
4receive, track, and record all reported firefighter deaths, 
5including the cause and manner of death, as reported by fire 
6departments and units of local government. The Office shall 
7publish an annual report concerning the information recorded 
8under this Section and shall make the report available to the 
9public.
 
10    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
11becoming law.".
