| Amends the Board of Higher Education Act and the Public Community College Act. Provides that a student member who serves on the Board of Higher Education or the Illinois Community College Board shall receive a scholarship award of $500 for each semester in which the student member is enrolled and serving. |

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Board of Higher Education Act is amended by |
| 5 | | changing Section 5 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (110 ILCS 205/5) (from Ch. 144, par. 185) |
| 7 | | Sec. 5. The members of the Board shall serve without |
| 8 | | compensation but they shall be reimbursed for their actual and |
| 9 | | necessary traveling and other expenses while engaged in the |
| 10 | | performance of their duties. A student member shall receive a |
| 11 | | scholarship award of $500 for each semester in which the |
| 12 | | student member is enrolled at an institution of higher |
| 13 | | education and serving as a student member of the Board. The |
| 14 | | scholarship shall be payable to the institution of higher |
| 15 | | education at which the student member is enrolled and may be |
| 16 | | used for tuition and fees, books, and supplies. |
