AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 2284 

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 2284 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the 
5Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding 
6Section 2705-442 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2705/2705-442 new)
8    Sec. 2705-442. Intercity bus program. The Department shall 
9conduct a study on the creation of an intercity bus program 
10with the purpose of connecting the State with quality, 
11affordable travel options that allow people to travel to any 
12part of the State without driving. The Department shall study 
13the cost of planning for and implementing intercity bus routes 
14that (i) add missing frequencies to existing passenger rail 
15routes, (ii) begin frequent departures throughout the day in 
16advance of Amtrak service, and (iii) add smaller towns into

1the network.
2    The Department shall further study the cost of 
3implementing the program by (i) contracting directly with 
4intercity bus carriers through competitive bids, (ii) 
5contracting through Amtrak's Thruway bus program, or (iii) 
6contract directly with a local transit authority within the 
7State.".
