| 1 | | AN ACT concerning State government. |
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
| 4 | | Section 5. The State Fire Marshal Act is amended by |
| 5 | | changing Section 5 as follows: |

| 9 | | Sec. 5. Tracking firefighter mortality. Beginning no later |
| 10 | | than 6 months after January 1, 2026 (the effective date of |
| 11 | | Public Act 104-102) this amendatory Act of the 104th General |
| 12 | | Assembly, all fire departments and units of local government |
| 13 | | that provide fire protection services in this State shall |
| 14 | | report the death of any firefighter employed by the fire |
| 15 | | department or unit of local government to the Office of the |
| 16 | | State Fire Marshal. The information reported to the Office |
| 17 | | shall include the cause and manner of death, including, but |
| 18 | | not limited to, any deaths resulting from suicide and the |
| 19 | | various types of cancer. If a firefighter separates from a |
| 20 | | fire department or unit of local government with a known |
| 21 | | cancer diagnosis and succumbs to that cancer within 12 months |
| 22 | | after separation, the fire department or unit of local |
| 23 | | government shall report the death to the Office. The the |
