Provides that the Department of Human Services and the Department of Healthcare and Family Services, whichever is applicable, shall not consider veterans' disability benefits as countable income when determining an individual's eligibility for medical assistance, child care assistance, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. Requires the Departments to apply for any federal waivers or approvals necessary to implement this income exemption. |

| 1 | | AN ACT concerning public aid. |
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by |
| 5 | | adding Section 12-4.60 as follows: |
| 6 | | (305 ILCS 5/12-4.60 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 12-4.60. Veterans' disability benefits exemption; |
| 8 | | medical assistance, child care, and SNAP. Subject to federal |
| 9 | | approval, if required, the Department of Human Services and |
| 10 | | the Department of Healthcare and Family Services, whichever is |
| 11 | | applicable, shall not consider veterans' disability benefits |
| 12 | | as countable income when determining an individual's |
| 13 | | eligibility for medical assistance under Article V, child care |
| 14 | | assistance under Article IXA, and benefits provided under the |
| 15 | | Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The Departments |
| 16 | | shall apply for any federal waivers or approvals necessary to |
| 17 | | implement this income exemption. |
