SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2310/2310-750 new

    Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Authorizes the Department of Public Health to conduct a study on lung cancer biomarkers, including, but not limited to, the anaplastic lymphoma kinase gene. Provides that the study may focus on identifying genetic variations in lung cancer that are linked to increased risks, genetic variations that are linked to treatment resistance, and genetic variations that are linked to specific disease subtypes. Provides that the Department of Public Health may enter into contracts, grants, or other agreements for the purpose of completing the study. Provides for the repeal of these provisions on January 1, 2029.

1    AN ACT concerning health.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
5Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6amended by adding Section 2310-750 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2310/2310-750 new)
8    Sec. 2310-750. Lung cancer biomarkers study.
9    (a) Subject to appropriation, the Department shall conduct
10a study on lung cancer biomarkers, including, but not limited
11to, the anaplastic lymphoma kinase gene.
12    (b) The study may focus on identifying genetic variations
13in lung cancer that are linked to increased risks, genetic
14variations that are linked to treatment resistance, and
15genetic variations that are linked to specific disease
16subtypes.
17    (c) The Department may enter into contracts, grants, or
18other agreements for the purposes of completing the study in
19accordance with this Section.
20    (d) The Department shall submit a report to General
21Assembly of its findings by December 31, 2028.
22    (e) This Section is repealed on January 1, 2029.
