SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Illinois is the fourth largest pork producing
3state in the United States, contributing an estimated $13.8
4billion to the State's economy and supporting over 57,000
5jobs; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Pork is the most widely eaten protein in the
7world, and consumers have a variety of delicious cuts as
8choices, including bacon; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Illinois pig farmers produce over six billion
10slices of bacon per year, and the average American eats 18 lbs.
11of bacon per year; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The hardworking pig farmers who raise this
13high-quality product deserve our support; whether plain or
14apple-wood smoked, store-bought or artisan-made, bacon is a
15meat for any meal; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The phrase "Bacon Never Broke My Heart" goes
17without saying; and
 
18    WHEREAS, National Bacon Day is celebrated in December, but
19Illinois needs its own day to pay tribute to this decadent,
20rich, and indulgent meat; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
3REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we declare May 7, 2025
4as Illinois Bacon Day and invite all Illinoisans to thank a pig
5farmer by enjoying some delicious slices of bacon; and be it
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the Illinois Pork Producers Association as a
9symbol of our respect and esteem.
