SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly recognizes the sacrifice of U.S. Army Specialist
4Anthony William "Tony" Gilman and his love for his country;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, SPC Gilman, son of Fred and Mary Gilman, was born
7in Jerseyville on January 22, 1976; and
 
8    WHEREAS, SPC Gilman grew up in Calhoun County and
9graduated from Calhoun High School in 1994; and
 
10    WHEREAS, SPC Gilman enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout
11Calhoun County and Pike County; and
 
12    WHEREAS, SPC Gilman decided to enlist in the U.S. Army in
131997, eventually rising to the rank of specialist; and
 
14    WHEREAS, SPC Gilman lost his life on July 4, 1999 during a
15peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, becoming the first American
16casualty during the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The County of Calhoun is honoring the life and
18sacrifice of SPC Gilman on Memorial Day 2025; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
3REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois
4Route 96 from the City of Mozier to the Pike County line as the
5"Army Specialist Anthony William Gilman Highway"; and be it
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
8is requested to erect, at suitable locations consistent with
9state and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
10giving notice of the name "Army Specialist Anthony William
11Gilman Highway; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of SPC Gilman, the Calhoun County
14Board, and the Secretary of Transportation.
