SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The United States of America owes a profound debt
3of gratitude to the members of the Armed Forces who have been
4prisoners of war (POWs) and to those who remain missing in
5action (MIA), having made extraordinary sacrifices in the
6service of their country; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The families and loved ones of POWs and MIAs have
8endured immeasurable hardship and uncertainty, demonstrating
9courage, resilience, and unwavering hope; and
 
10    WHEREAS, POW/MIA Recognition Day honors the commitment and
11sacrifices made by these brave individuals and reaffirms our
12nation's pledge to account for every service member who has
13not yet returned home; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Recognizing POW/MIA Recognition Day provides an
15important opportunity to educate the public, promote
16remembrance, and express collective support for efforts to
17locate and repatriate all missing service members; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The third Friday of September is traditionally
19observed nationwide as a day to honor POWs and MIAs, and formal
20recognition by this legislative body further reinforces its
21importance; and

1    WHEREAS, In 1998, Public Act 90-0752 established the
2permanent yearly observance of POW/MIA Recognition Day in the
3State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
6REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we encourage the
7citizens of Illinois to recognize and honor those who have
8made extraordinary sacrifices in the service of our State and
9country on POW/MIA Recognition Day this year on September 19,
102025.
