SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Scarring alopecia, also known as cicatricial
3alopecia, refers to a group of rare disorders that destroys
4hair follicles, replaces them with scar tissue, and causes
5permanent hair loss; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Scarring alopecia can affect individuals of all
7ages, genders, and ethnic backgrounds, and it can have
8profound physical, emotional, and psychological impacts on
9those affected; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Early diagnosis and appropriate medical
11intervention are critical to slowing the progression of
12scarring alopecia and preserving existing hair and scalp
13health; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Public awareness about scarring alopecia remains
15low, often resulting in delayed diagnoses, limited access to
16specialized care, and a lack of understanding about the
17experiences of those living with the condition; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Organizations, healthcare providers,
19researchers, and patient advocates are working diligently to
20promote awareness, advance research, support affected
21individuals, and improve treatments and outcomes for those

1living with scarring alopecia; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Designating September as Scarring Alopecia
3Awareness Month will help educate the public, support affected
4individuals, and encourage further research into effective
5treatments and a potential cure; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
8REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we declare September
92025 as Scarring Alopecia Awareness Month in the State of
10Illinois to help bring attention to and educate the public on
11scarring alopecia.
