SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General 
3Assembly pays honor and respect to truly great individuals who 
4have served our country and, in doing so, have made the 
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher B. Donaldson, 
7the son of Bill and Lynne Laue Donaldson, was born in Effingham 
8on May 17, 1977; and
 
9    WHEREAS, CW2 Donaldson graduated from Effingham High 
10School in 1995; and
 
11    WHEREAS, CW2 Donaldson enlisted in the U.S. Army on 
12September 12, 1997, becoming a pilot and rising to the rank of 
13chief warrant officer 2; and
 
14    WHEREAS, CW2 Donaldson completed tours in Korea and 
15Germany before serving with the 10th Mountain Division during 
16Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in 2006; and
 
17    WHEREAS, CW2 Donaldson was killed in a helicopter crash 
18while on a rescue mission in the Kunar Province of Afghanistan 
19on May 5, 2006; and

1    WHEREAS, CW2 Donaldson was awarded the Bronze Star, the 
2Air Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the 
3Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, the 
4NATO Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, the Army Good 
5Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the 
6Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, the 
7Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, the Expert 
8Marksmanship Qualification Badge for grenade, and the 
9Sharpshooter Badge for rifle; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL 
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF 
12REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the 
13Fourth Street Interstates 57 and 70 Overpass in Effingham as 
14the "Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher Donaldson Memorial 
15Overpass"; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation 
17is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with 
18State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs 
19giving notice of the name "Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher 
20Donaldson Memorial Overpass"; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
22presented to the family of CW2 Donaldson, the Mayor of 
23Effingham, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
