SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Latino Unity Day, celebrated in Springfield on
3May 5, 2026, is an annual gathering centered on advocacy,
4empowerment, and unity within the Latino community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Latino communities have long celebrated both
6large and small accomplishments, recognizing that many of our
7families have had to overcome significant barriers in pursuit
8of opportunity; and
 
9    WHEREAS, We are taught to appreciate those who extend
10their hands to help others and to recognize the importance of
11community support in overcoming hardship; and
 
12    WHEREAS, It is important for elected officials,
13legislators, and community leaders to uplift our heritage and
14sacrifices of those who came before us; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Latino leaders in government have a
16responsibility to use their voices and positions to advocate
17for their communities, their histories, and their lived
18experiences, especially while representation remains limited;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, In recent months, communities across Illinois

1have experienced fear and uncertainty that have deeply
2affected families, neighborhoods, and children; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Rapid responders across Illinois have stepped
4forward to protect vulnerable immigrant families, aiding them
5in urgent situations with bravery; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Despite our differences, communities continue to
7come together to defend hardworking families striving for
8safety, stability, and the opportunity to pursue the American
9Dream; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Many immigrant families continue to face barriers
11in achieving that dream; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rapid responders continue to provide hope and
13inspiration, reminding us that the future can be strengthened
14through humanity, unity, and collective action; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In times of fear and injustice, communities can
16come together, set aside differences, and stand united in
17defense of dignity and human rights; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
20REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we recognize the rapid

1responders of Illinois for their dedication, courage, and
2unwavering commitment to protecting and uplifting communities;
3and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That we acknowledge the vital role rapid
5responders play in supporting immigrant families, promoting
6safety and awareness, and strengthening unity across all
7communities.
