SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Patricia Ann "Patty" Stremsterfer of Pleasant Plains, who passed away on February 23, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Patty Stremsterfer was born in Springfield to Harry and Ruth (Fetzer) Hartmann on January 23, 1932; she graduated as valedictorian from Pleasant Plains High School in 1950; she married Harold Stremsterfer in Pleasant Plains on December 2, 1951; and

WHEREAS, Patty Stremsterfer worked for Franklin Life Insurance until her marriage; her part-time and seasonal employments included her parents's business, Hartmann's Grocery Store, So-Fro Fabrics, and Richland Elevator, but her full-time job was being a farmer's wife; and

WHEREAS, Patty Stremsterfer's community involvement was her passion; she volunteered for over 40 years at Memorial Medical Center, first with the gift cart and later as the cardiac waiting room receptionist; twice a month she gave manicures at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia and enjoyed the company of the residents; she shared her sewing knowledge by teaching children at the local library; she also served as an election judge; and

WHEREAS, Patty Stremsterfer was awarded the 2017 Distinguished Volunteer Award and the 2018 Good as Gold Award for her work with Memorial Hospital's volunteer program and was honored as the parade marshal for the Pleasant Plains High School Homecoming in 2017; and

WHEREAS, Patty Stremsterfer was a member of the Peter Cartwright United Methodist Church for 70 years until she began attending Richland Creek Baptist Church in rural Pleasant Plains; she was a member of the Pleasant Plains Community Club for more than 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Patty Stremsterfer treasured her abundance of friends; she enjoyed sewing, handiwork, baking, bowling, golf, and traveling; and

WHEREAS, Patty Stremsterfer was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents; her youngest child, June, and her husband, Pat McDonough; and her sister, Mary Kay Schmidt; and

WHEREAS, Patty Stremsterfer is survived by her daughter, Ann (Greg) Reiterman and their children, Ken Reiterman, Jennifer (Kevin) Knoop, and Katrina, Shane, and Justin Reiterman; her son, Norman (Michele) Stremsterfer and their children, Lee (Stacy) Stremsterfer, Lindi (Scott) Kocher, Travis (Mary) Stremsterfer, Bridget Stremsterfer, and Wade (Elly) Stremsterfer; June's children, Brian (Stephanie) Hays, Geoffrey Hays, and Tracy (Matt) Simpkins; Pat's daughter, Mandi (Chris) Elder; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Patricia Ann "Patty" Stremsterfer and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Patty Stremsterfer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
